Etheric Light made all content relevant and respected the player's prior time and effort. The current Infusion system makes only a small handful of content relevant, makes loot a dual-RNG grindfest over the course of months, and it completely invalidates time spent in Year 1. It doesn't take a genius to figure out which system worked better, Bungie.
