Weapon Tuning Discussion

Lately, I find everytime I read about weapon tuning I just get angrier and angrier. Pulse rifles are good right now, I agree auto rifles needed to be buffed, but pulse rifles did not need to be nerfed. Why is it that Bungie likes to nerf everything the community likes to use, then they gets upset when we have to use a different kind of weapon as a result? The whole reason the thorn epidemic started back in year 1 was because Bungie nerfed auto rifles, then hand cannons were nerfed. Then pulse rifles that could two burst were nerfed, but that's not enough, no sir. Now we have to further reduce their damage to the point where everything will be a 3-5 burst kill or something ridiculous. As far as the exotic weapons go, the first curse needed buffing without a doubt. Hawkmoon did not need to be nerfed. Shotguns good, no problem. Litc snipers great. (Although what is the point of range dropoff?) If anything the chaperone needed a buff, because it can't one shot and no one uses it as a result. If I were going to try and be accurate with a secondary I would use a sniper. What is the point of nerfing fabian strategy very few people use it at this point, as it is meant for PvE. The others are alright. Thoughts?

  • Nothing is happening with pulses except the gap between them and other weapons will be smaller Changes to primaries (cept Hawkmoon and TFC) are actually really good, do wish hand cannons got a bit more of a buff though

  • I think PRs need a nerf. The only thing I see needing an adjustment is long-range accuracy. There isn't much of a trade off between RoF<->Range<->Accuracy. Getting triple crits at long distance makes no sense. Unless the weapon has 0 impact (let's not encourage Bungie to drift in an impact reduction nerf-spree). It's the reason why they're used so much-- easier ranged kills and an RoF that saws through close quarters enemies. Ultimately, Bungie needs to focus less on popular weapons and start focusing on weapon-type zoning: identify why certain weapons are popular and others aren't. I think the biggest issues that need to be addressed, overall, are (increased) impact on most weapons and raise the penalty for falloff damage. It should increase the risk-reward factors that we use to determine which weapons we choose.

  • As a PvE guy (and sometimes a little bit a pvp guy) my opinion for the pve side: The shotgun nerf is to much,even for pve Shotguns should have more damage(2x like the previous patch) shotguns should always be high risk high reward For the middle range we can have now Fusion rifles.....I hope.... Pulse,auto rifles: we have to see how they perform in pve.... Handcanons: juppppiiii,still needs more reserve ammo Luck in the chamber on snipers: I can live with that -For the exotics- First curse: I like this,could be awesome gun Fabian strategie: ????? The chaperone: potential to be one of the best guns for damage(if u land precision shoots) Hawkmoon: Wait? WHAT??? Bungie stop smoking.... My thoughts on pvp side: Auto rifles: they can become Op,but we have to wait and see Pulse rifles: I think the nerf are not so bad,it's not a 2 burst kill anymore(Red death) it's a 2.5 burst kill now....it's ok imo Handcanons: ok now I hope my shoots are not RNG....     • Yay, now we all get to watch everyone jump on auto rifles and fusion rifles? Every time they attempt to balance weapons they just up a couple other guns while reducing everyone's favorite gun. So what does everyone do? They use the gun that had its damage upgraded or rate of fire/charge rate increased. Stupid At it's Finest

    • Nerfing damage is the one thing not to do with pulses, maybe a stability change would be better instead, they do need a change, but nerfing damage makes them no longer an appealing gun class. finally shotguns can die...? I do hope they test and agree that some of the changes are outrageous. Autos needed a buff, hand cannons needed something, pulses were almost to a balanced state (they plan to kill them) scouts are perfect. Things about this patch sound ridiculous and so before the update, I pray bungie thinks it through.

    • A new Thorn is emerging (The First Curse). People would move to Scout Rifles (As they were unaffected) now that Pulse Rifles are being nerfed. You see Bungie, you Nerf, we move to something else. Nerfing is not always the key, but you always take the easiest escape route. I'm not a handcannon user but Hawkmoon nerf was totally unnecessary, after all, it's an exotic, I can feel Hawkmoon users anger.

      • I think it's fine. I think a lot of you are overacting. Remember different archetypes of pulses got buffed much more than 10%. 10% buff was only the low rate of fire one

      • The reason why things get so screwy is because they go up and down on EVERY weapon. When you compare weapon damage to the players health and ttk in the crucible you change that EVERY damn time. It -blam!-s with everything. The pulse rifles were in a good standing spot this time and didn't need to be nerfed. They needed to take the pulse rifles and use them as a key work around factor to make everything else factor in around it.

        • I seriously don't understand why they can't just go through with the auto rifle and hand cannon buffs, then let the meta shake out before they basically undo the pulse rifle buff. It's really hard to balance when you keep going in circles. Seriously they've basically revoked the auto rifle nerf and pulse rifle buff. You know what happened then? No one used pulse rifles and everyone used auto rifles. FFS Bungie. Oh and they do realize that at some point shotguns don't have any more range to lose right? This one I get though. Of course they could have just lowered PvP damage and left range alone (or even buffed it!) But they saw people were using them in PvE because of a lack of options during strikes and shit. Can't let those PvE filth have any fun amirite Bungie?

        • Anything crucibabies cry about gets nerfed, it's the way it's been since day 1, no matter what they say in the update notes, no matter how good the changes look on paper something will end up being dominate in the crucible, this last time it was pulse rifles, before that shotguns and before that hand cannons, they don't seem to ever learn that PvP and PvE cannot be balanced, just banging their heads against the wall like window licking morons. How about you use some of that money you spend on paying people to "balance"(he said sarcastically)weapons and get some dedicated servers, fix the lag and you won't have to worry so much about the weapons.

        • I don't even understand what they want us to do? It's 110% their fault that these are like this, we just play the game they are offering and at mediocre at best. Let's make pulse rifles better than everything but get mad when they only use that. Maybe this time you should -blam!-ing warn everyone DONT USE THIS WEAPON FOREVER IT WILL SUCK IN 2-3 MONTHES. warning label on every popular gun.

        • They didn't nerf Fabian Strategy they just changed the perks. It's going to be shooting at Necrochasm speeds when the perk is active and at its regular speed when it's not active. The wording of it is confusing but I think that's a better change for it compared to what it is now where it's barely noticeable.

          • I actually liked a lot of what I saw as far as the tuning. They made a point to give the weapons that were undoubtedly nerfed due to PvP an AI damage buff. That was a good move, but 5% is virtually nothing.

            • I'm a day 1 player (and beta tester). This is my favorite game on the next gen consoles. My opinion is, they should buff autos to what they used to be in vanilla destiny. Buff the hand cannons to what they used to be in house of wolves make blink to what it used to be shotguns to what they used to be in HOW. Buff fusion rifles to what they used to be in vanilla destiny. Keep snipers the way they are now. And just buff scouts to make them Able to compete with these weapons that were in their primes. That would be so amazing. The weapon variety would be so diverse for all players. Especially in PvP. [b][i][u]thoughts on this? I'd love to hear everybody's feedback! :)[/u][/i][/b]

              • Well they managed the Nerf LUCK, I found that aggravating AND amusing at the same time. So now LUCK is OP??? Maybe they should continue nerfing luck and include their fabulous RNG......because we all know THATS way to OP too ;) AR were nerfed into oblivion in year1, now they are being brought back up. HC were nerfed into the ground, now they are hedging over bringing them back.....but know they need to FR's were made pretty useless and they refuse to make them relevant Shotguns will drop of at melee range along with slower EVERYTHING......and I can't even go to FR's??? Snipers are long range weapons that now have long range damage drop off??? Because we all know the long range damage was such a bitch??? .....also nerfed LUCK 😂 Pulse rifles aren't good, are good, aren't good....blah, blah, blah

                • The shotguns needed no nerf. My invective already needed to be close range, but now it's just not good at all even at melee range. Pulse rifles got nerfed to the ground after getting nerfed before. Ugh, I can't even finish this banner now. I'm about to delete this game off my one and sell it to my friend for 10 bucks...

                    • People were saying Fabian Strategy needs a buff, because the RoF increase was around 1%. They acknowledged this and made the gun WORSE. Does Tlaloc have reduced damage and increased RoF, no. In order to use the perk, I'm going to be in range of a bum rush from a shotgunner. Now people may start avoiding the perk al together.
