Fallen are not part of the darkness.

Hello fellow guardians. As you guys already know House of Wolves has come out six days ago and in my opinion has been awesome. House of Wolves has not only been a good step for Destiny, but it also cleared up many things about what the DLC is about, the Fallen. With the introduction of an actual fallen ally, Variks, we get to find out more about the most common enemy in the game. So here, with information from Variks and grimoire, I made a possible theory of the history of the Fallen and why they are not dark creatures. Theory: The fallen come from a distant and unknown world beyond our sol system. They were once a great and powerful civilization who had a massive golden age of their own. We do not know if the houses were ever united at one point, but I think they might have because we were all united during our golden age. Variks mentions that the fallen did indeed encounter the traveler but they were already in their Golden age when they saw it. They probably made their golden age together without the traveler until all hell broke loose when the equivalent of our collapse, the whirlwind to them, happened. Since the fallen saw the traveler, the darkness was probably in hot pursuit of it and wrecked havoc to the fallen civilization when their homeworld was in the way. We know from Variks that the house of rain was decimated by this collapse so we know the houses existed before the whirlwind. The fallen possibly could have been a civilization already in decline before the whirlwind due too politics between the houses and hierarchy. We know that the house of judgement tried to keep peace between the houses and possibly during this time when the relationships between the houses started to become more tense. We know the prophecy by the house of rain stated that a kell will unite all the houses together so the houses were fighting already before the whirlwind when the house of rain was destroyed. Then the darkness swooped in and destroyed the fallen's homeworld, causing them to scatter. Then the traveler ran to Mars and was found by us. The darkness was probably busy destroying the fallen's homeworld for as long as our golden age was and then continued its pursuit of the traveler while the fallen scattered. The fallen probably were trying to find another place to settle and so found us. They noticed our technology and pillaged us ,while fighting the other invading aliens, to get it for their ether supplies and for their civil war and for fighting the other aliens. Because of the traveler we survived the collapse and we became enemies with the fallen because they tried to wipe us out to steal everything. The house of kings noticed that the traveler was why we had a golden age and so are trying to unite the fallen to steal it and restore peace in their civilization. Some houses, such as the house of wolves, we're crazy enough to try and steal the darkness to use its power, such as when scolas' plan was failing. The fallen are indeed power hungry and want to steal any power whether it be darkness or light to restore peace or to dominate the other houses. So if their trying to steal the the power of the darkness and its wielders' technologies, then that means they don't have the darkness, which means they are not dark creatures and servants of the darkness. They just believe it to be another source of power like the light, which they also want to steal. If the fallen were part of the darkness, then Variks would not have betrayed scolas and go along and betray the queen. If the fallen were dark, they would not even ally with their enemies. They would probably fight to the last soldier like the hive and vex. But instead they have free will which the darkness does not give its servants and so they chose to surrender to the queen and Variks chose to stay with her. The fallen are apparently more of an enemy to the darkness than to us. If you noticed the AI in the game, you notice that fallen enemies will actually fight the dark creatures rather than you, even if they did notice you. I've seen in the devils lair strike on many occasions, when you enter the first building where the fallen are fighting the hive, that several dregs were not paying attention to me but were fighting the hive while I was being shot by other dregs and vandals who were in the back and were free to shoot me. I don't know if this is just how the AI works or if it was intentional, but if it was intentional it definitely proves my point. Much better proof is the story of cayde-6 where he was fighting some hive on the moon who just recently attacked a fallen outpost. The fallen baron managed to survive and saw cayde. She then decided, instead of killing cayde, that she would fight the much bigger threat, the hive, with cayde. After a few minutes of fighting the baron was shot by the hive and she was on the brink of death. The hive retreated to regroup and cayde went to see her. She then passed her shock pistol to him and weakly tried to stab him when he reached for it. Then cayde shot her and used her pistol. He did not know whether she wanted to actually kill him or just wanted to be put out of her misery and make it seem that she wanted to kill him so he could kill her. But I think she just did it from the agony since she probably speak human language. In conclusion, I think the fallen are just a species that want to find the best way to regroup, either through domination, power, or peace. They choose to do things, which is not very present in the other aliens who are just corrupted and brainwashed by the darkness to just kill the light, no matter the circumstance. The fallen have emotions and feelings and personal thoughts on things and show many resemblances to us emotionally and thinking wise. If you spent time reading this, I just wanted to thank you and I would love feedback and what you guys think about the fallen. Have fun playing destiny.

  • (Not sure if this counts as a spoiler, but if you want everything in the game to be a surprise, don't read this) Also, as a side note, the Kell that will unite all others is called the Kell of Kells. Skolas tries to become that but you end up killing him.

  • I agree with this. I've been on a bunch of other sites and they all seem to have the same point of view, that the fallen aren't actually evil, just trying to regain/gain power so they can rebuild their civilization. (Or in skolas's case, rule all the fallen). When I read the bit about the fallen attacking the hive instead of you, it reminded me of when that happened to me, so ya. Also, adding on to what Gr8 r8 m8, I had a machine gun called Baron's Ambition and its description is an unknown fallen saying (and this isn't the exact wording) to crack open that depraved earth servitor, to reclaim the great machine. And the great machine is what they call the traveler.(you can probably find the weapon in the destiny armoury (I'm not sure how these links work, so I won't put one in))

    • The Darkness is a metaphor for evil/destruction/chaos. The Fallen belong to what we consider to be Darkness in the universe because they are at war with Humanity. Although they are not pure evil like the Hive, they still represent bad guys to us. The Fallen are likely a desperate space faring race that is in decline; hence Fallen. If there homeworld was destroyed, this gives even more reason to believe that. In the Grimoire card about the battle between the Awoken and the Wolves, you really get clued in to the desperation of the House of Wolves and there reckless behavior. I like them.

      • One of my destiny 2 theories is fallen and cabal allies who we used to blow up the moon to destroy the hive. New enemy I forget where in the grimoire it said the cabal were running from something. Might be the darkness.

My theory on each enemies relation to the darkness Fallen- homeworld destroyed by darkness, seek to scavenge now because they must do so. If the darkness was winning the war they would join it. If we were winning they would join us. During the collapse and such the battle of the twilight gap they fought for the darkness only to avoid extinction. Now they're indifferent for the most part trying to survive. If they could use the power of the travelers light they would Cabal- they are the trickiest. Not sure why they came here tbh. "They blow up planets and Moons just for getting in their way" in their way of what though? What do we have that they need? Was even their military strength overwhelmed by the darkness so they recognized true power and joined it's army? I feel that if any two races join us it will be the fallen and the cabal. Vex- we get theirs specified for us. They found the black gardens heart and discovered it was something so powerful they did the only logical thing their minds could decide on. Join it. Worship it. Use its power to accomplish their goals. One of their possible goals described in a grimoire card is (to become a part of time and space, a part of the laws of physics) oddly enough the species most similar to them is the hive. Hive- they appear infinite. They teleport from Netherealms through some force we don't understand. They fit the same description of the darkness in one way. They seek to consume all. To destroy anything before it can even exist. That is how they win their war. Just like Toland says about the darkness in his three queens speech. I believe the hive are created by the darkness. Perhaps they originate from some power the darkness once consumed that they were able to use to make their will take a shape or true form. "Three words. Oryx, dead King" the new comet dlc got a trademarked name with a hive rune and called "The Taken King" maybe there was a power long ago the darkness needed to consume much like the traveler. Maybe it was oryx. A now dead King. A "taken King" and from that power they made the hive.

      • Like I said before I agree with your theory -On a side note though, its funny how no one has ever noticed that some of the fallen lore was taken from the Transformers 2 movie ironically titled. -Transformers 2 revenge of the fallen- For those who haven't seen it, there is a ancient decepticon names Jetfire who switched sides to the autobots because of the civil war between the two rival groups. He helped the humans in the movie by giving them vital information about the fallen leader and he also gives Optimus Prime his ancient armor and weapons so he can fight the Fallen. I attached a picture of Jetfire. he looks quite similar to someone that's helping us in the reef doesn't he? even down to the walking stick. lol

        • My two pieces of feedback. 1. Cool for you for digging into it and coming up with this. I can't disagree. 2. You said house of rain was decimated. Decimation isn't so bad. It means to refuse by a tenth. People use that word wrong a lot. I think you were trying to use a different word.

It's obvious the Fallen were never part of the Darkness. None of the enemies truly are. The Vex are indifferent to everything. Hive worship the darkness. Cabal and Fallen are trying to survive with the Fallen already being broken.

            • Great job ;) Also Variks call the traveler the great machine i think, that means the fallen know the traveler he said they want it because he can hive them ether so for them it's ether and for us light Personally i think houses are like country and so some are in war, others no thanks to a pact or something else

            • You do know that the fallen and cabal are allies, there is just not a planet where they meet in the game, look it up. That's why they are the most advanced alein race, becuase they have meet every species. Just leaving that there, cause they allied with one of the darkness....but they did ally and did not just start war with cabal. So it's hard to tell.

            • I still think that perhaps the Traveler betrayed or abandoned the Fallen, which is why they're so dead set on attacking the city. I think it's also worth noting that the Cabal seem like they could be similar - not so much minions of the Darkness as sentient beings who use it. In fact, they don't really have any connection to the Traveler that we know of at this point. Perhaps they don't even know that the Darkness is using them.

            • Well...technically the only creature of Darkness are the Hive. The other three are just hostile towards humanity. The Vex, for all their knowledge, can't explain the darkness and turned to worship it. The Cabal are just a brutal military force that has their own Empire somewhere out there and seeks to expand it.

Long story short, they were once civilised before the darkness attacked them and they became pirates looking to take over our tech. :)

              • The fallen are victims. We attacked them first. All of there machines were designed to explore- the gunships weapons are in compartments and are not guided-they were for clearing obstacles. Shanks are arodynamik WITHOUT there guns. It says that shock daggers are for all purposes. They only have FOUR actual weapons. Are these the savage killers we tell the city about? NO! These are purely the subject of are hate, ruthlessness and arrogance.

              • This is the one theroy that I really believe. It all makes sense, as they were already a empire before the collapse, hence why they are the most common enemy add they had years to grow to that size.

              • The Fallen are victims of the traveler just like we are. All signs point to Destiny's original story supporting this theory. They are addicted to ether to such an extent they need to to live much like ketrasel white(there has to be a deep space 9 fan working for bungie). I don't think it's a coincidence that servitors and the traveler look so similar. Look at the ghost maybe they are micro versions of servitors half the time I think the servitors are more in charge than the Kells are a few grimoire cards point to this also. Just like ghost and guardians, why do we listen to them? It's not a coincidence that the ghost have gone silent since we arrived in the reef the Queen knows the truth as do the fallen but we have our heads in the traveler and won't listen to reason. Dead orbit has it right it's time for a change (notice how dead orbit is run by awoken the ones who know the truth) the Future War Cult also knows the truth they have seen what has past and what is to come.
