Well...technically the only creature of Darkness are the Hive.
The other three are just hostile towards humanity. The Vex, for all their knowledge, can't explain the darkness and turned to worship it. The Cabal are just a brutal military force that has their own Empire somewhere out there and seeks to expand it.

A ghost hiding among the Cabal even suggested maybe they're scared of something out there in space and I don't think it's the Darkness. Behind their eight-foot and 800 pound bodies they're stricken with fear of something unknown to us.

I think it was also suggested that the Cabal units on Mars are actually a renegade operation and are running from their own empire? Or maybe they're running from The Nine or the Ahamkaras

Hmmm the Nine could be a good culprit cause the Cabal on Mars follow a high space command further out in space. The grimorie card of the Cabal Commander in PoE even calls himself a Val (a Cabal Rank) in the prison and it says that the Cabal High Command never authorized it.
