Ideas to helping Virgin relic/sword runners

I mean come on, how many times have u joined a fireteam and someone says "Whos running relic/sword?" Thankfully i learned to master both, but i still hear the folks in the fireteam asking. Its a really simple task and can be fun too but i can see why folks would be intimidated to be on the spotlight. Maybe Bungie can have a section for relic and sword practices, kinda like a SOLO free for all in its own section to master these weapons. Example will be how to use it, combos, timer, etc etc I mean seriously this will help boost virgins and those not so comfortable using these and will encourage everyone to run it. Problem is people cant give the relic or sword a try due to people are on a timer, have short tempers, they are low levels, being on the spotlight make your palms sweaty, etc..Shoot i have 3 guardian classes. I can see how someone who has 3 doing back yo back raids doesnt have a first timer to learn the mechanics. idk if what im saying makes sense. Id like to see more people run the sword and relic instead of me.

  • You can always play around solo on the templar check point to practice relic, you don't have to do damage to the templar, just run around killing harpies getting your super up and shooting the templar, if you can get this part going solid using relic at atheon is easy,

  • I've never ran either. Too nervous to mess it up. Anyone willing to teach I'm ready and eager to learn. I also guess being a Titan doesn't help as others have said. I'm on PS4 by the way.

    • There are ways to practice the Sword (not on Crota, sadly) The Sword of Crota mission The Fist of Crota Patrols(?) (I think they were removed though) No ways to practice Relic though. I would really enjoy teaching others how to use the Relic. The do's and don'ts, etc.

    • VoG: One thing to do is do not jump until you have to. If you double jump at the top of the steps, you will grab the enemies attention and they will start shooting. Best thing is to run halfway down the steps and jump when you are read to slam. If Venus, tell your teammates to throw a grenade to help with shields or do damage. I know some people try to take out the two smaller guys and then focus on the praetorian. Keep doing jump slams to stun the preatorian. On mars, no grenade is required as it will activate the fire shields for the snipers. Usually there are always two who stand near each other, so jump slam and get as many as you can, and RT the last one. Once enemies are gone, run back up the steps and cleanse. Best practice for cleansing is making sure that the oracle shooters are close to each other. It helps to identify if someone is lagging behind and tell them to move faster. I always cleanse once at the top of the steps, and then tell them to meet me at the middle plate for the second cleanse. When the last two oracles spawn, and your teammates are taking them out quickly, I usually leave the portal early. Mars turn left, venus turn right. Head to the middle platform and stand near the front right, away from the left wall as it can cause splash damage. Inform your teammates generally at 10 seconds and 5 seconds and if someone has a bubble, tell them to put it a the back of the platform around 2 seconds left, so everyone can walk to the back and shoot harpies. CE: For Normal, I usually like to run left steps rather than middle as you can kill the knights without a wizard coming out. Have 1 32 with icebreaker on boomer duty, and everyone else either making orbs on the left steps and help kill the swordbearer. If enough orbs are made, you can grab the sword and quickly run back to the steps so you have a super. Jump on the left rock. If you are a hunter, crouch and go invis with the bladedancer perk. Once he starts going down, start swinging and you can land 4 RT's. When Crotas shield comes back up (or just before) drop the sword and melee for blink strike to go invis. If you are not a hunter, jump on left rock and signal rocket fire. Jump to the platform and stay a little distance from crota and look up so you view his shields. To be more conservative, try 3 hits, and then run away by jumping and swinging. On hard, go to middle platform and pretty much do the same. Hope this works.

    • I'm pretty good at relic. My main problem is I don't kill the pretorian on Venus, and die as I'm cleansing

My advice is find a team of patient people, preferably friends who wont be bum nuggets and complain on every wipe. I did this yesterday and got my first Crota sword kill :-D all it takes is patience and a fireteam who arent a-holes

I've tought 3 people how to do the Aegis Shield within the past couple of weeks. Fire is this short range dash that does massive damage that leaves you wide open. Melee does this bash attack that you can use in the air for great mobility and bouncing back and forth between enemies. Jumping and firing will do this dive that works almost identically to death from above on titans. Grenade does the cleanse shield. And the super is this bolt of energy that shoots straight forward. It ain't that hard folks. Now get your ads through that gate and follow me.

      • I had a crash course on shield bearing back in VoG. Before running sword in Crota, I definitely watched a video before hopping into that sword bearing position. I'd just recommend if you're wanting to learn how to do shield/sword, look up a few videos on YouTube. It won't make you an expert as experience comes with time, but it's the foundation starter and gets your foot into the door of relic using.

      • The only way to get good is with practice. I run relic and sword. To get in practice just go into the raid on normal and practice with it. Get a feel for how many hits you can get per drop and where his health goes. Get a feel as to where his shield is at when you land your first hit to finish dropping him. Same goes for relic just play around with it and you will get the hang of it.

      • Just say I want to run it, and use it, feel the terrifying power. Abuse and confuse the enemy, and if someone says you suck. Tell them to eff off and die

      • The biggest thing is if you do fail and someone gets mad at you or says something about you grabbing the relic don't stay quiet. Ask what you did wrong, what strategy is better or what button should I use next time. Nothing worse than having a guy trying to learn but won't take any advice or won't even talk

      • When I wanted to learn relic, I joined a VoG normal run and asked them to teach me. One of the guys was nice enough to show me my way around the relic at Templar, and we got him down on the first try. Very easy process. Learning sword took quite some more time. Since my titan is my only 32, it was significantly more difficult to do than a hunter. What I did was join in on some Crota CP's and notified them beforehand that I was a first time swordbearer. (So they knew what was happening when it took me a long time). I joined about three crota CP's before I gave up on my dream of being a swordbearing titan. About two months later, I was three-manning crota. I was the only one without a gjallarhorn, so guess who was stuck with sword. Oddly enough, we got him down on the first try! Tl;dr: Relic is easy to learn. Sword takes quite some work, but is completely worth it.

      • Hi, my name is Pete and I am a Relic\Sword noob. My group has so many experienced relic holders and sword bearers that I never had to pick them up. Since I play with adults who have family and limited game time we do not really have time to fart around with multiple wipes while people learn.

        • Back before I was comfortable with running relic I would try to grab it first teleport at Atheon. If I failed it was no big deal since the wipe was right after the checkpoint. It only takes a few runs to get the hang of it. I find that there are people who just refuse to try it out for fear of failing and getting an earfull. Give it a go anyway. If someone in your team is an a$$ you're better off finding a new team.

        • I managed to learn sword just by watching people in hard crota. I was able to kill him on hard crota on my first run as swordbearer, with two wipes. That was my first time ever being swordbearer.

            • There's no need to teach with sword, every of us has taken it in "The sword of Crota" and in patrols when the knights had it, just tell the noob about timing and how many hits must do, and the rest comes with practice. With relic what I have done in my clan is, usually in a 26 raid, explain everything to him and let him carry it and try to do everything the first minutes. This usually ends with him dead, so we wipe and then try to do it seriously with him carring it, and that's all. However, in my fireteams there are always at least 3 or 4 people that know how to use them.

            • I think that's a good idea. I always seem to be the one that runs sword or relic regardless of what class I'm playing. I don't mind because it's a lot of fun but it would be cool to actually get to shoot atheon or crota for once
