YOU ALL THOUGHT I WAS DEAD... But here I am with another part, with more to come in the near future! Part 16: The Ahamkara “In order to overthrow the Kell, we don’t just need to defeat him in battle. We must have the support of the house, and the Archon.” Saliks said to Matthew, both of them sitting cross-legged in Saliks’ chambers. “Well, no doubt the other Fallen with support us, but the Archon might be a problem.” Matthew said, furrowing his brow. “There’s no way the Archon will help us if we just asked. We need a plan.” Saliks said, assuming a thinking position. “What about the Prime?” Matthew said after a moment of silence. “The Prime has been dead for years. At least that’s what both the Kell and the Archon say.” Saliks said, shaking his head. “How can they be sure?” Matthew said, frowning “Wasn’t the Kell appointed after the Prime supposedly died already?” “And so was the Archon…” Saliks said, frowning as well. “Then that means they must not know.” Matthew said, hope rising in his voice. “So if we find the Prime, then the Archon will most likely support us.” Saliks said, hope rising in his voice as well. “It has to be here on Venus, since this is where the House of Winter is stationed.” Matthew said, a grim smile crossing his face. “And then we can overthrow the Kell.” Saliks said with a nod, a grim expression on his face as well, yet it wasn’t a smile. And so a plan was hatched. The two of them snuck out of the Ketch, in the cover of night, escaping through a hatch in the side of the ship. When Matthew kicked open the hatch on the other side, he almost fell into the chasm below, before Saliks pulled him back. They began climbing from rung to rung on the side of the ship, heading for solid ground. All seemed well, until a Fallen guard spotted them. His squinty eyes widened as he found them, another Vandal and a two-armed Fallen, escaping from the Ketch. A cry escaped his mouth as the two of them hurried along the side of the Ketch. Multiple Vandals began appearing to the side of the ship and started shooting at the two. Matthew and Saliks made a jump for solid ground. Once they realized Matthew wouldn’t make it, Saliks grabbed his hands mid-air. Once they hit the ground Matthew went over the edge, and Saliks began sliding across the ground, but stopped himself. Just as Saliks pulled Matthew up, they looked back to the Ketch to see the distinct shine of wire rifles charging. They ran. “Why didn’t we think this out more?!” Matthew shouted at Saliks while they ran for their lives. Saliks simply shrugged and ducked while a wire rifle pulse soared over his head. Wire rifles discharged their shots, arc energy flying at Saliks and Matthew. They scrambled to dodge the shots being fired at them, one Matthew managed to just narrowly dodge, practically jumping to the right as the beam struck just to the left of the side of his head. Another one was just about to hit him, but just barely gleamed off the Xiphos strapped to his back. They launched themselves into a thickly covered woods, spirit blooms lighting the entire forest. Multiple wire rifle shots soared above their heads as they kept running, dodging both arc energy and trees. Once everything died down, Saliks and Matthew stopped to catch their breath. After a few minutes that seemed like hours, Saliks finally spoke. “C’mon, they’ll be coming after us.” He said, the cries of Fallen rising into the air. They made their way through the forestry, but as they made their way deeper and deeper into the luscious green woods, the spirit blooms became less abundant, and the light was dimming with each step they took. “I don’t like this…” Saliks said, a frown forming on his face. Just then, Matthew took one more step forward, and a cracking sound was made. He looked down to see it wasn't just a twig. They both took a closer look around them to see bones littering the ground; most of them grown over by moss, but some of them were new. A loud thud was heard through the forest, and both of the two looked towards where it came from. All was silent. Next thing they knew, a giant clawed foot smashed into the ground in front of them, a dragon-like beast staring down at them, hunger and malice in its eyes. The sun shined off of its golden metallic feathers all down its forelegs, its bloodied bird-like talons gleamed in the light piercing through the shade of the treetops. Sharp horns protruded from the top of its head, and spikes ran all the way down its scaly back. It stood almost as tall as the trees around them, well over three stories tall, with a feathery wingspan of at least twice its height. It roared at them, a cross between a screech of an eagle, and the roar of a bear or lion. Matthew stood there in both shock and awe; Saliks pulled him away just as a gout of flames scorched where Matthew previously stood. Saliks and Matthew ran in different directions as the dragon-like beast crashed through the woods, chasing after them. Matthew looked back to find it building up another gush of fire. He quickly hid behind a thick tree, as fire flew to both of his sides, burning the Fallen armor he was wearing. Once the fire stopped, he immediately began running again. Saliks jumped from a branch on a high tree, shock blade at the ready. It hit straight at home at the monster’s neck, but as the blade made contact, it almost immediately shattered. The beast jerked its head upwards, launching Saliks into the sky, where it proceeded to bat him away with the back of its claw. It began walking towards Saliks, another gout of flames building in its throat, while the Fallen boy simply sat there, too weak to get away.
