Bought 4 exotic engrams today with motes of light. I really was aiming for the "Don't Touch Me's".
Decrypted all 4 and 3 of them ended up being "No Backup Plans" gauntlets for my titan.
I would have been ok with just 1 of them....but 3 out of 4 doesn't seem to random but more or less "These are your options and you'll deal with it".
Love the game but hate the "randomness" that is claimed.
Currently running my 5th Sepik's Prime strike in a row. Wasn't this supposed supposed to get fixed?

Destiny is as random as a casino Blackjack table. And the house always wins.
-
It's weighted.

Bungie says it's random. Are you telling me you don't trust bungie?!! (Fake sarcasm)

Got no back up plans when I bought exotic engram from xur with my hunter Beat nightfall with my Titan, got no back up plans again. More strength on the roll from the nightfall one, so sharded the ones from the engram. Just going to save my motes until next year, will be a lot more stuff (with a much stronger light level) for RNG to pick from...

So I'm wondering if pre dlc vanguard gear is still in the game. Has anyone received a pre dlc vanguard gear drop post dlc?
-
Despite being random there isn't enough gear to make it noticeable probably.
-
I bought 3 engrams....got young ahamkaras spine each time. I have the don't touch me gauntlets...so I just wasted 69 motes lol

Humans are very bad at spotting or generating random sequences. Specifically, humans expect them to repeat the same value a lot less than a truly random sequence actually does.
-
A large issue with Bungie's "RNG" is that it favors dishing out things you already have... A LOT.
-
If I've learned anything from my Computer Science class it's that computers are stupid and can only do exactly what we tell them to do. So the RNG system is as random as a computer programmed by humans can be.

Random = luck IMO

For the last 2 or 3 Nightfalls I've gotten Exotics that I already had as rewards. It's really pissing me off because you can only do the Nightfall once per week with each character, so you can't choose your favorite guy, do the Nightfall and when it goes to crap you say. "Well that sucked; let's see what I get playing again!" No, you have to wait an entire week to get another shot at good rewards. And that's only the crap I've been getting from the Nightfalls. I think Bungie makes the RNG the way it is partly because not only are they being lazy and cheap, but it makes players play a little bit longer in the hopes that they'll get the reward they've been dying to get for the past month. This way Bungie can have those big numbers: so many players playing for a lot of hours. Perhaps it's their way of trying to convince people that players are still adoring the game. That's probably not the case, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we discovered that they had done something like that.

Pretty Random...

I don't know the what the range of the algorithm. But chances are. That the fist check is to see what class the decrypted item is. Then the roll for the specific item. There are 2 hunter guantlets, so 50/50 if you fall into that group. So if we base it on a 100%. So 33% to get that hunter slot. Half a chance of getting don't touch me. So 16%-17% Not very high odds.

It is randomness. That's like rolling a pair of dice four times, getting the same combo four times, and calling it not random.
