It is randomness. That's like rolling a pair of dice four times, getting the same combo four times, and calling it not random.

 • Like Xur randomness? Bungie kinda blew it out of their asses with their deceiving version of "randomness". I really haven't played much and I can't say I plan on playing often in the future. I can't stand being lied to and they lied to all of us... I grabbed dice and rolled them 25 times. Guess how many times I got matching pair? 1 out of 25 which is 4% versus their 75% on exotic engrams. See where I'm going here??

 • Selection bias. Every single person that didn't get unusual luck didn't immediately leap on the forums and make a thread titled "I OPENED THREE ENGRAMS AND GOT THREE DIFFERENT ITEMS OMG RANDOM RNG".

 • You kinda seem angry that people don't see things your way. You don't have to comment if you're just gonna throw jabs at people about what they didn't learn in computer class or if I got 3 different items. I started the thread for a better understanding of how this works.... Not to read you talking down to people or complaining about threads that are started. You're counterproductive IMO and you haven't brought much to the table as far as information outside of making me feel stupid because I don't know the ins and outs of RNG. I joined the marines dude... Not computer science. Relax and pop a xanax or stop commenting on the thread dude. You're kind of a buzz kill. Every single person has generally had something intelligent to say where I felt "wow, that's a new perspective" besides you. That says a lot coming from the dumb bullet sponge.

 • You seem to see hostility when it's not there. Almost as if you're deliberately looking for it. You shouldn't expect to have some kind of "aha" moment, because the answer really is "the process is random and you just think it's not because of psychology". But anyhoo, here's a bit about the birthday paradox, because I think the birthday paradox is interesting, and it explains why you get a load of the same thing, and having written it once already, I might as well get my money's worth:
Okay, there's something from probability called the "birthday paradox". You probably know that there's 365 possible birthdays a person can have. So say you got a load of people together: how many d'you think you would need to gather before you saw two people with the same birthday? You'd guess a lot, right? Like a hundred, hundred-fifty, something like that? The answer is twenty-seven. The reason it happens is that each person you add has a chance to share a birthday with each person that's already there. So person 2 has 1 possible match; person 3, 2; person 4, 3. The total number of possible matches gets larger exponentially: when there's two people it's one; when there's three, three; four, seven; five, twelve; ten, fifty-two. So if we replace people with exotic weapons, and birthdays with what-type-the-exotic-weapon-is, and gathering-them-in-a-room with opening chests, we should expect to see the Birthday Paradox. Because of the Birthday Paradox, you need to get a much smaller number of exotics than you might think before you start seeing duplicates, even multiple duplicates. If you weren't getting lots of the same thing, that would be strong evidence that it *wasn't* random.
