I have spent about 2 hours resetting and getting my network to open nat by Microsofts definition via Xbox One. My goal was to see why I have such a difficult time killing people in Iron Banner with a 100 mb plus download speed and 10 mb (Comcast Through Router). Some reason my download monitor is not working on my router, but the out bound data was. So result are half the battle at least the often believed issue of gaming. Ill be frank here, since the weapon patch my abilities are hampered and really do not have good pulse rifle. So use Last Word to which every round can hit a guy and they live. Then at other times 3 rounds will kill. So my issues are a mix of connection and luck. Not sure which to believe. To start just sitting in the dash board of the Xbox One is barely even registers 1 kb out per second. Did a multilayer test and it peeked to 1.1 mb out. So I was thinking this is good for people even with phones as most can reach this on data plans. Then watched a Youtube video and hardly broke 10 kb out. Loaded up Destiny and if did not even register and data out going to character loading was 1kb. Once a character was loaded I went to patrol on Earth. I hardly even broke 1kb out. Not surprised as not being part of a fire team at this point. So thought to myself to try a Iron banner run. To my surprise it sat between 60 kb to about 95 kb per second. Mostly sat around 70 kb during the play. Every now and then a peak to 92kb about every 10 seconds. So went to tower and was roughly about 7-10 kb. So I ask the people of Bungie. Yes I did not have the down load speed data. However, If I was putting out max of 92kb per second. Then this 92kb times 12 would be about 1.104 mb per second max needed. Again almost any phone could do this. Sure ISP can make a strict nat but this just means your not hosting. Your router could maybe have issues handling 1.104 mb down and 92 kb per second up. Huge maybe here. So to Deej and any developer or Bungie issue investigators. Why are we having these lag infested games of Iron Banner or regular Crucible? Are that many people really using lag switches or limiting their router settings to reduce upload of data? Are the ISP's really at any fault here at all even for the 2 mb data plan crowd? I recall on 2 mb plan that even then 500 kb upload was common. So what are you guys not telling us about our lag issues? I am feeling your peer to peer game host protocols have something to do with these issues. It would explain the Raid issues also but not really. Even in these cases a max connection of 552 kb down and 92 kb upload per second is required. Any body else have any thoughts besides Bungie wont be answering this or they do not care? This seems to be a very disturbing discovery on my part. As pretty much any body with modern Internet should not be having any kind of issues unless connecting to friends way around the world.

  • I agree, lots of things are blamed on the so-called "wal-mart" connection, but it takes relatively little speed to play this game. The net code needs tuning, certain weapons and abilities like TLW and blink jump really add injury to lag, and yes, these Destiny -blam!-ers are lag switching out the ass, and the cheaters justify it for many reasons like needing to win to get iron gear and they don't have good exotics like thorn etc. to compete in addition to just generally sucking. The games progression system attracts the shit. Lots of lag switchers play it off that having a bad connect is what "helps" them, but it's a bullshit lie and excuse. Legit bad connects don't gain advantages I don't think. When I'm red bar on peak sat nights, and it starts lagging, even the pve fallen will obliterate me and teleporting spawns and all the fire just smacking you down instantly. TLW looks like a 1 shot sniper on my end when it's bad it doesn't help my game

Did you make sure there is no other device on your network sharing the same IP address as your console? This can happen, especially with people who get a little too adventurous with trying to optimize their home network. It will appear that you have a lot of lag and dropped packets from the source, and in essence you would since the source in this case is your confused router. If you have a bunch of devices on your network, make sure their method of obtaining an IP address is through DHCP or "automatic" and not statically supplied by you entering an IP address into the IP address settings of the device. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then this might not be your problem unless you have another adventurous family member messing with your network. If so, have that person check these settings.

      • Your connection speed while the client is running is not as important as the latency of other players. If you are in north america, and playing against someone in asia (with a good connection) you are looking about 100-250 milliseconds. 250ms is an obscene amount of lag. So it takes a quarter second for damage to register on their end, and half a second for the damage you deal to show on their life bar. People with satellite internet are nearly unkillable, infact you'll die before you get the points for killing them. Then there are people with slow connections, playing in a third world country with a ping way over 300-400ms, you'll see the BS. So no... the actual network requirement may be low, but it does not appear that you are accounting for the distance the data has to travel. Which is where the latency actually comes from.

          • Dude, the problems with the crucible are so terrible right now, that people who get a sticky grenade to the head, survive them with no damage.

            • Here's a fix for some of the Crucible lag: if you lag severely in pvp for an extended period of time, you get booted from the server you're playing on and you go back to orbit.

            • I suspected they lowered standards. #help was never able to help hardly anyone with connection issues. (My guess is this happened in Feb or so.) Sadly, this is world wide. And standards vary greatly. I bet I can connect on a dialup with some minor tweaking. (I can be in mexico and trick my ip into thinking I'm stateside... dude there are SO many holes!) If I had dialup access still, I would try it just to post how retarded it is that I was even ever able to. (I have noticed though that Xbox live parties seem to elevate lag. Idk if game chat is any better, but parties seem to lag worse. But again, this could be switchers using private comms for coordinating when to toss the football.) Football = unkillable (he is a decoy, he runs the switch)

              • Can some one explain how destiny use one player as host please? What does it mean. Does it mean all other players data at fireteam, send and received from the host?

                • I was running patrol this morning around 6 a.m. (aka a time in which there wouldn't be anything taxing my ISP's network.) I even had a green indicator for connection to the game. Think that made a difference to how the game ran? Nope, lag everywhere, enemies repeating motions, enemies jumping around the map, health bars dropping and regaining and staying static under damage, things not dying when they should be dead. At that time of day there should have been no lag issues due to network connectivity. What's up with that?

                • I played several crucible matches today. All of them were shamefully laggy. Everyones connection would be at green one second, then everyone drops to red at the same time. :/

                    • This might just be my imagination, but sometimes I think my headset causes me to lag!. If I turn the mic on, I believe I get a tiny bit more lag which helps me in PVP. When I turn it off, I don't lag but suddenly I'm getting one shot'ed. I've ran into latency issues previously with sound recording music programs in the past, and I've noticed how much processing power it takes to record sound on my laptop. I can't help but wonder if the chat or being in a chat party is absorbing some processing power and bandwidth.?

                      • We are not running on a dedicated connection on their end. This is obvious to anyone who has spent a good amount of time playing this game. So I'm not sure what the purpose of this post is. We all know destiny is laggy. Are you suggesting it's done on purpose?

                          • From what I heard they made a lag switch so that people with better internet connections didn't have the advantage like it happened so often in call of duty, not sure if it's true but it seems like the people with the worse connections seem to be wrecking everyone these days
