Proximity chat would get annoying fast, especially if turned off, then you end up talking too someone who has it turned off. This does not need to be in game, you can already text/voice message and invite via PSN

 • Then you realize after 5-10 seconds that the person cannot hear or read what you're saying and he/she prefers to be left alone. You then proceed to move on. No one wants to have to switch through heaps of menus and switch out of game just to write a PSN message or send a party invite that most people don't want to go through the hassle of accepting anyways. Communicating with random players and sending/receiving fireteam invites should be seamless and quick. If you're in the proximity of a player who's mic is loud and annoying then you simply highlight them and mute/block. Same could apply if the game supports text chat and said player is also spamming the feed with obnoxious messages. Having to occasionally mute a player is hardly a game-breaking experience and the potential for easily being able to meet new players and forge new friendships along your journey in Destiny because of well-integrated communication tools would far outweigh any of the cons that come with it. The way communication is handled right now in Destiny is unacceptable.

 • I disagree, the built in PSN messaging and invitations work fine especially if you are in a safe place like the tower. It literally takes one button to view a message or invite when it pops up. As for the rest, I also disagree but I guess it's subjective.

 • And what if you're not in the Tower and you're in PvE or the Crucible and you need to communicate something as soon as possible to a player that isn't in your fireteam? In it's current form, the PS4's home menu is still slow and clunky. I can send and accept party invitations faster on the Xbox 360. Messages can even be sent and received faster on the PS3 when compared to the PS4. You're welcome to disagree with me but you could at least give me better reasons. I don't understand how, despite everything I've said and proposed, you still think Destiny's currently very limited communication options don't need to be changed in any way when there's so much room for improvement here.

 • What you want to improve is fair, I myself don't see a need for it. I personally don't want to deal with proximity chat or a chat box clustering my screen and if this were implemented I would turn it off, but this would leave me with no information if someone wanted to communicate with me via in game communications and so instead of messaging me through PSN as it was intended, they would likely move on which would suck if they were trying to communicate vital information to me.
