PVE main tries PVP

This is the type of matchmaking I have when I step into pvp and we all know this is the real reason why non-pvp players choose to never play pvp. It's not because we are bad and haven't had much practice, it's because matchmaking is and always has been horrible. I accept that I am bad at pvp, but me being bad has nothing to do with the type of teams I'm given and the type of teams I'm matched against. I would like to hop into crucible and have a moderately balanced game where it's nearly head to head, not this 8, 7, 4, 3, 2 combat efficiency team VS 1, 0, 0, 0, 0 combat efficiency team. Sadly enough, I was the 1 and I would have been much higher if I had a better team backing me up or at the very least doing anything at all. This post was mainly intended for Bungie or anyone affiliated with Bungie to look more into their matchmaking system and fix whatever outlier protection, sbmm they have in place because it is not working. I would like to pvp every once and a while and not regret my decision every single time. Thanks

  • I'm not a huge fan of matchmaking either, but it's polarising nature makes it tough to change, given the community is 50:50 on it. Spawns on the other hand, quite possibly the worst of any game I have played.

    As someone in the higher end of skill. You get dog matches in at any skill level. The only solice I can give you is the ppl who can dog on me in crucible you almost definitely rarely rarely see.

    Perfect matchmaking is never going to happen , blowouts and one sided matches are a reality of competition

    • I play PVP. I have over 1000 hours in pvp. Tge matchmaking just sucks, I get paired against 6players of my skill and paired with 5 teammates that are blue berries. In one match, I had 400 kills in Crucible last week, and the rest of my team had less than half. Some had around 80, and that's how you can see how bad the mm is in Destiny.

        Yeah that does suck, I have been in a ton of those, I'm definitely not good or anything, at my best, I'm slightly above average but I get absolutely worked all the time. I have also been on the winning side of those lopsided matches quite a bit. It's weird how it works out sometimes. I try to use the below quote from philosopher Marshawn Lynch as my motto while playing Crucible 😂: "I know I'm gon' get got. But I'm gon' get mine more than I get got tho."

          • I play a lot of pvp, and I will tell. This happens to everyone + there is always those stack teams thatbjsut want to pup stop + there will always be that guy that wants to play like MLG using the most meta loadout and trying his best not to get killed, even solo super you just for them not to die. Thats just pvp, welcome to club

          • The balancing thing is not possible every match, but blowouts shouldn’t be dominating every play session. Your best bet *might* be Comp. That is the only playlist designed to match similarly skilled/ranked guardians and should be easier to balance. It depends on player population though — some ranks are difficult to match within.

          • If you don't PvP often, I'd expect you to get lopsided matches like that because it's a part of his SBMM works... When you play your first round of PvP, the system doesn't know where to place you, if player skill is ranked from 1 to 10, it doesn't know if you're a 1 that's just about able to aim a grenade throw or if you're a 10 that can grapple a thrown-strand, ride it half way across the map and obliterate all opponents with a super. For your first round it may pitch you against a team of players around the 6 or 7 mark, and if you get obliterated by them, it'll match you against a 5 or 6 group, and it'll continue until it finds the group that you destroy. At that time it'll bump you back up a bracket to see if the previous round was a fluke. SBMM isn't going to find your perfect match after 1 round, it isn't going to find it after 10... It's going to take hours and hours for it to get a proper idea of where you fit on the skill scale. What Bungie should do is introduce a clear and visible skill display, a 1 to 10, to show you where the game currently has you pegged within the SBMM framework.

                Those matches like that do suck, but the thing is that everyone gets them. Unfortunately, the game doesn't quite work like the majority of people say it does most of the time. That includes every level of player that will look at something like that and think that what the game was trying to do was create balanced teams. It would be impossible for the game to create all balanced teams for everyone playing at the same time all the time. What happens when people are encouraged to expect the game to be able to do that is generally matches that feature gameplay that causes people to quit and also it will still end up with similar outcomes to the one you had. Its hard to say exactly the way you should look at a match like that without knowing where it fell in your play session, but the fact that you appear to have come in first on your team can actually be kind of a "good" sign for you. Outcomes that look specifically like that don't necessarily have to happen as often as they currently do, but the reality is that it would most likely be worse in terms of the game being able to match peoples' expectations for the kinds of outcomes the game is supposed to produce for them.
