Because the matchmaking will often put 5 new players or less skilled players on a team with one really skilled player, and pair that team against 6 average to good players.
Which results in the skilled player carrying the new/less skilled players while they are being stomped by the other team. It’s absolutely horrible and I don’t see why the system seems to prioritize these kinds of games.

Guy I know, very good, plays solo, loses every game, his win % is never higher than 10% per game, often 1-2%. He always gets the 5 worst players, always
