There's too much damn special ammo.
You should never be able to main your special weapon as a primary in pvp..

Back when special weapons were heavy weapons. Heck, they basically still are.

Thing is, without specials - the game just becomes a really poor shooter with extremely flat gameplay of team-shooting and corner-peaking. Honestly...specials are all that keeps the flow of the game moving. This game relies on the "wow, amazing, big space magic floaty nonsense" while not excelling at what other shooters do well at core. Remember dual primary meta at D2 launch? Remember how awful that was? At current, personally I feel it's one of the better spots the crucible has been in. A lot of playstyles can be effective, most weapons have a good spot, and despite linear being a touch strong (especially in the case of LD) we still find use for primaries and abilities in the grand scheme of a match. Just my 2cents. You're not wrong for your view at all, I just worry it becomes what we already had once, which was pretty stale and boring.

It honestly depends on how the matchmaking wants to screw you over. There's matches I play where players use all kinds of weapons and it's a breath of fresh air. Other times it's literally just teams running special or HC/shotty all day and it's so 😒

I’d kill to get a lobby of HC/shotty users. All I see are Lorentz, Main Ingredient, bows and other cheesy stuff.

Sorry about the bow deal it's the only way to deal with sliding m&k console players in IB or trials. I have turned to the dark side lately myself because of them.

That's been every IB match I played last week. Finishing those 4 bounties was the biggest slog of my life. 🤣 Reminded me quickly why I've generally stayed the hell out of pvp unless it's required for something.

Won't lie, i've seen the same. But let's take your suggestion, and imagine a crucible in which no special spawns (no ammo crate, nor drops from players) but you get a few in the clip every life. Do you really think it'll change all that much? You'll still have 6 people starting every life with attempting to use their special twice and then flip to primary, die and rinse/repeat. Even if I agreed with your suggestion (which I only partially agree is an issue), I don't think it'd change much. On paper it seems like it would, but in practice...most people aren't re-supplying their special anyhow. Last, but not least, I personally find fun to be more of a factor than competitive balance for a game like this. It isn't counter-strike or even Call of Duty. It's crazy floating space magic explosion extravanganza. I don't want to sit in hallways going pew-pew with HC's and pulse rifles from mid-range for 15 mins at a time. But again, I don't think you're wrong for your opinion. Just throwing my thoughts in the ring =)

Much appreciated. I know it's unlikely but perhaps we could eventually get a Crucible Labs where Bungie experiments with more game modes and types in the future. Limit special could be one. Something. It's been nearly 8 years and all Crucible has for the standard playlist is Clash and Clash with extra steps.

I think we both agree there 100%. More ways to play is always something I support. Custom playlists/private servers can only go so far though.

Special should be used in situations where that 1 enemy you are fighting just absolutely needs to die or you get back up into a corner and need an easy out if you don't have your super or abilities to bail you out. Certain special weapons as they are right now (especially some exotics) are basically just heavy weapons with nigh infinite ammo, made even more busted stupid when using charged with light builds. Heck some heavy weapons in pvp don't even kill in 1 shot and you only get ammo for those maybe once twice a match. You shouldn't be able to main a special weapon in pvp like it is your primary. Granted some special weapons make this WAY too easy to accomplish. Especially after the nerf to abilities we just got which was basically a buff to special weapons as now there is less usable options to counter a special ape. At the end of the day, players are gonna play the way they want and who am I to say how they can and can't do what they want? It is a game after all. Have fun with what you want.
