Unfortunately it's the console proprietary network causing issues. It's even worse with PS.
It seems to be getting better week by week though.
If I'm on PC I don't have any issues playing against Xbox. If I'm on Xbox i do have issues with crossplay, but some of that is probably just because console hardware is pretty bad and runs hotter than it should be allowed to.

PS5 here, console’s barely warm. Networking weirdness sounds plausible? Maybe crossplay’s always been like this but last night it was very noticable. As for crossplay PvE, it seems better, but running grandmasters is, well, the champions rubberband like titans in crucible. On a PS3. Noticed it with ads in Deep Stone Crypt too. It’s not just me though, and it can’t be due to my connection. My go-to fireteam has +200mbs speeds, and a respectable ping, yet this has started happening consistently when crossplaying.

The only good thing is that I'm not alone regarding this one! Are there any remedies to this? I have a few mates who like PC and I'm on Xbox and it would be great if we could (after 7 years) do a Nightfall or something....Cheers mate!

If you can’t run nightfalls, it sounds like your aim weirdness is even worse than mine. Bungie’s support page has a list of Xbox-specific ports to open / reroute on your router to make for better gameplay experience. It’s a bit of work if you haven’t done that kinda stuff before, but it could definetly help.
