"Tonight I played, and lost to, the same three teams MULTIPLE times. The player pool can’t be this ridiculously low that I need to see these same teams consistently all evening."
The answer is, it is. The player pool is that low. Trials is on its way to being dead, only a matter of time.

Problem is, there is a big chunk of the community that play destiny for the pvp. If they kill trials, pvp has no endgame and it’s far more redundant. More people will leave the game, which points in one direction for the game itself....

Iron Banner can be considered 'Endgame' if Bungie decides to make quest-steps (3 steps) that challenge players for Adept variants of Iron Banner weapons each Iron Banner. After that, Adept weapon can drop randomly in Iron Banner matches and/or by Lord Saladin.

I think PvP end game is just playing through the rounds with all of the glitching and other errors in any round of play. I both hate and love the idea of same loot pool for winners and losers. There is no incentive to do well. ...Just an incentive to play long enough to get pinnacle rewards... The REAL challenge is surviving the rotation of those players who just seek the pinnacle rewards without any intention of actually playing.
