I struggle with how a hunter from the city throws away their allegiance to the vanguard and traveler to shack up with a fallen that thought it was a good idea to let inmates out of prison...
Which leads to the death of her mentor and friend....
I completely understand this is your story, but dang girl, for me it’s a real head scratcher. 🤔

Shadow was pretty upset about being basically lied to. No one told her about what happened to the eliksni until... quite a while after she was revived. She felt like she was mislead, made to believe they were evil. And they just had her slaughtering them left and right. The city just sweeps the eliksnis’ history under the rug. As for the traveler, it abandoned the eliksni. Why should she trust or worship it? Also, she didn’t give up her lifestyle easily... she was really worried about it, if you read the older pages you’ll see that. She didn’t want to disappoint her vanguard. Shadow is by nature a peaceful person, but she wouldn’t have known that about herself since she woke up and had to just become a guardian right off the bat. When Variks started teaching her, she gained sympathy for the eliksni. And seeing other guardians/awoken bullying Variks (who did nothing to deserve it) just helped push her towards him even more. Shadow is very much that underdog sort of character and so Variks felt relatable for her. It was easy for them to be drawn together as two people who everyone disliked/misunderstood. As for the prison, she will openly admit it was a bad idea. But she knows Variks has a good heart and she forgives him, considering how guilty he has felt for what happened. It’s not like she would run off with someone like Taniks, and she doesn’t want anymore fighting between humanity and eliksni, just like Variks. Hope this explains a little bit? Lol

What I find most fascinating, about any guardian’s story, is the way they somehow carve out their own path even though all shared a common start. How is it that one could defy their very maker? Would the traveler willingly make guardians to stand opposed to it? Or at the very least feel indifferent? Perhaps the traveler enjoys such diversity.... My huntress has no such misgivings about the traveler or the vanguard. When Cayde fell, she hunted down Uldren and claimed vengeance. Upon hearing Varik’s transmission on Europa, she quickly located him. After saving him from the other fallen, she double tapped Variks with the Ace of Spades. In my head canon, Shadow also meets her end via Thorn. And unlike other guardians that “flirt” with the darkness, she dove straight in. It’s fun creating a back story lol. I wish you no harm Shadow. But my huntress definitely would if she were real. Keep on writing. Some stories should be shared.

It is fascinating indeed. I’m intrigued hearing how she would die in others stories. Thorn, that’s interesting. Why thorn?
-
Thorn is weapon capable of killing lightbearers. It was simply the easiest weapon for my huntress to obtain. And she knew that in order to get to Variks, she would have to go through you. Or at the very least have to contend with you at some point, whether Variks would fall first and then you hunt her down for revenge, or my huntress takes you out first to get to Variks. BL’s campaign makes it easy to suggest shadow was otherwise engaged. Of course, the very name shadow implies she may be just that, his shadow lol. I guess I would have to think about how it would go down 🤔
-
You have my interest
-
Would you like me to write up some of it for you? I have thought about how your shadow might contend with my huntress. The one thing that does hinder creativity in writing our own stories is the campaigns. For instance, my huntress would never have helped Variks during BL. Are we bound by such campaigns? Or can we forge our own story? I suppose what I am asking, is whether or not you personally adhere to Bungie’s story beats, or create your own.
-
I think it would be cool to see. As far as the campaigns go, I personally stick to Bungie’s lore as closely as I possibly can. But of course Shadow does have her own story. I don’t follow the storyline of “the guardian.” But that’s just what I do. You are not bound by bungie’s writing unless you make it so.
-
I see. Well I will think about it some more and put it together. I shall take a few creative liberties with your shadow. You may point out whether or not I keep her in character afterwards lol.
