When you main an AR it's hard to be good. Victory isn't handed to you like it is when using a HC.

The bullet magnetism for HCs is incredibly large unlike ARs. The optimal TTK for HCs is consistent and very easy to achieve unlike an AR. When using a HC I land at least 80% headshots whereas around half of my shots with an AR are crits. Saying outplayed implies that my opponent is better than me which is not the case. HCs are carrying people. I win a lot more of my engagements when using a HC than I do with an AR. Is Bungie only having me go against crappy players when I'm using a HC and sweats when using an AR? Or is it because Bungie designed certain guns to be stronger than others intentionally? It's certainly the former.

Buddy I can use an AR and do just fine hell they're easier to use than hand cannons

I used to be a HC main in D1 because they were just too good. ARs were meta at launch in D2 and I found them to be more enjoyable since I play aggressively. I also hate the look of my character holding a pistol (I'm big into aesthetics). HCs are easier to use since you don't really have to aim with a HC to get headshots. I actually have to pay attention to reticle placement when using an AR.

Not really. HCs are better versions of them currently.

Hand Cannons are a great choice, but a competent AR user should be having no problems.

ARs have a more difficult ttk to achieve with less aim assist. They also have less range and more zoom than a HC. HCs are also capable of peek which and they cause a staggering amount of flinch; making them superior duelers. I would say that there's only two viable primaries: HCs and PRs. Scouts would be up there too if Sturm wasn't a thing. Then again the flinch from Jade Rabbit makes it incredibly viable long ranges.

Yeah. Handcannons are definitely the best primary option in the game and they aren't even hard to use on top of it.
