Here’s everything you can do with sunset weapons: Quickplay Comp Heroic strikes Low level Nightfalls Old nightfalls Old raids Old dungeons Old secret missions Old campaign missions New campaign missions Old patrol areas The new patrol area (once your high enough lvl) Forges Reckoning Menagerie And old events like Blind Well and Escalation Protocol Will they be usable in the majority of new content? No and that’s the point of sunsetting. However we have to remember that new content is not the majority of the game. Is it the most active? Definitely but a majority? I don’t think it is. I think it’s like a 70/30 split. You can use sunset weapons in about 70% or the total game.

  • The point is that you can use your old gear in a slight majority of the game but it is the part of the game that will no longer produce good gear due to sun setting or in activities that were already obsolete. Sure, it’s a majority, but five one dollar bills still lose out to one ten dollar bill. Quality over quantity. Why do an activity that gives you obsolete gear when there’s an equally accessible one that gives good gear?

  • Because of transmog. Transmog makes basically everything viable. You think I wouldn’t go back into reckoning to get all the t3 clocks? Or go back and transmog all the old raid armors? Transmog replaces that old weapon grind with an armor grind for aesthetics.

  • They asked the community a few months back if they’d rather lose gambit or gambit prime. If it’s prime, I’d bet we’d be able to transmog them.

But if classic is the only mode available, that should mean more people will know to deal with the Envoys before doing boss damage, if nothing else.

  • There’s a variety of players who will be more affected than you think. Sunsetting will not affect the new player or people who just love running the same activities (I haven’t come across one yet in 5 years). I’d say there’s probably more players that play more towards the activities that will be affected but not necessarily within the less than 10% of hardcore players. So now they are forced to grind RNG gear and weapons to do these activities and probably for which they dont want to overly invest time in doing. It’s fine grinding for months for at least decent rolls, but then they’re gone in a few months. Do away with exotics and that’ll solve everything. There’s absolutely no reason to employ this structure in Destiny. The game doesn’t have nor will have enough content for it and this will drive incentive into the ground.

  • Exotics aren’t the problem. The problem is the pinnacle weapon system. We never had that in D1 and it was never an issue then. But now that we have curated god rolls just for completing quests, players would rather do that than grind for rng god rolls anymore. And once they get those god rolls, they lose interest in getting the new weapon god rolls because they’re never objectively better than those quest pinnacles. Proof of that is that is the recluse/MT have been on the top 2 most used pve weapons for 5 going on 6 seasons.

  • I won’t deny that, but if it means that they won’t nerf the felwinters and future “best in slot” weapons 5 times before it’s sunset like recluse, quite frankly I’d be ok with that.

  • Yeeeeaaah, I don't think that's working too well for Bungie seeing as they lost 14 million + players. The "don't like it, don't play it" mindset is really bad in this case because Bungie isn't really making the game better. It hasn't been good since Vanilla Forsaken. They rely on active players, and seeing as they're player count is so low, that's why they introduced FOMO. They're not doing much to truly keep players playing. I pretty much hop on to play Crucible game modes like Mayhem and Momentum now. With SotD and everything after. It was pretty much "how much can we recycle and charge people for?" Last year was nothing but exotic quests for D1 guns... Shadowkeep literally recycled the moon maps, gave 1 strike, no new gambit/crucible maps, no new Gambit or Reckoning bosses and brought back the Black Garden. Then recycled Menagerie for the Sundial, recycled another 1 exotic and the Black Armor forge system for the Seraph towers. And made Gambit fully pve with the pyramids banks and has us fighting the same waves of enemies to kill the same boss just to hear Eris vaguely talk about the darkness for a few seconds. The Prophecy and exotics for this season are cool, I'll give them that. But then you realize your gear is going to get sunset and the planets that Bungie did NOTHING with, that you had to pay for, are getting vaulted just to bring back what? Recycled D1 maps.... Bungie's old creative team was on to something. These stragglers are just greedy and don't know what they're doing. People are leaving because they don't like it. And it's really sad seeing Destiny turn into this mess. Who teases a boss for 5+ years? Savathun should have been introduced in Shadowkeep. The game had mentioned her since TTK. That's kind of ridiculous.

  • There is no game (especially any that are 4+ years old) that keeps 14 million unique players. The games constantly being made better, just not for you. It’s being made better for players like me. As they should. Population is fine, if WOW can last 15+ years only getting 1.4 million daily players, Bungie can make it with their million+ player count

  • I mean, FF14 has a pretty dedicated fan base. WoW and Destiny are different though. Bungie had the hype of the Halo series to back up Destiny. And it was planned for a 10 year game. But within the first four years, both a large chunk of Bungie's creative staff and their fan base left. It's clear that Bungie doesn't really play the game as much, nor that they really listen to the player base. And when I say that, I don't mean for them to do so to the point where the fans dictate everything. But there are a lot of players that have asked for pretty common things to spice up the game like different PvP modes or, implementing a better shader system, or to bring back SRL or to have our ships not just be cosmetic loading screens, etc. And it seems that a large majority of the fanbase isn't happy with sunsetting. If your idea of the game being "made better" is destroying old gear to make way for lackluster new gear, to retire worlds that had so much potential, but never were touched upon, reskinned bosses, maps and gear, lack of suspence, FOMO + unfinished story lines, and teasing things for 5+ years. Then, you can have it.

  • I’ll take it, because realistically you guys will quit in a year or 2 regardless of what bungie does. Once you all hit the hardcore players situation of having every weapon and armor roll you could want, you guys would quit. I’d rather them fix that issue now and let the few complainers quit. Don’t let the forum whiners fool you, the biggest poll we have around sunsetting (16k votes) was in favor of sunsetting. Oh and according to steam population numbers, Destiny is running circles around FF14. FF averages 15k active steam players, D2 averages 60k

  • 14 didn't have an extremely large gathering to start with like Post-Halo Destiny did. Plus, Destiny is a FPS which has more appeal to the gaming community than top down view MMORPGS. My point was that 14 is still doing pretty good and I rarely hear complaints from or about the fans. And I don't believe you're being realistic, because I've been playing this game since day one of the beta. I have seen how old Destiny was vs D2. D2 is just repeating the same mistakes the first game made except now they have weekly FOMO scare tactics and after the Year of Reskins, instead of making a new game (which wasn't Bungie's fault) they're just vaulting off content we've paid for. It's not fixing the core problems. If you check out the help forums on there there are a lot of consistant problems. Not to mention Bungie's abhorrent ways of balancing have left our weapons and armor being subpar. There's so much that just gets ignored. What was the whole point of the Drifter/Vanguard siding if it lead nowhere? What's the point to the Black Armory if Ada-1 is never seen after her season and the Vaults are put on rotation. What's the point to crashing the Almighty, but it took 3 months to do and Rasputin was conveniently powered up last second before it was actually about to crash? It's false hype. I'd rather Bungie just focus their attention on 1 solid year, than trying to cram lack luster paywall seasons filled with loose end stories. The Taken King was a solid expansion and a big step towards the future of the game. Non-vanilla Forsaken and Shadowkeep are the opposite. Also, losing 14 million doesn't sound a "few complainers quiting" it sounds like people extremely dissatisfied in a game with so much potential. I don't think either of us will budge on our sides, plus, I'm tired and I'm about to head off to bed. So, let's just agree to disagree. Goodnight, good morning, or good afternoon whereever you are.

  • So have I. Not because I’m not enjoying the game. It’s just because I have everything and feel 0 need to play the game. The most I can do currently is start saving bounties, do my weeklies for max bright dust for Solstice of Heroes, and do the dungeon to get max shards/prisms before next season. If the gear is good next season I can start building my inventory for season 12-15, and just that thought will probably make me sink in at least a couple hundred more hours next season than I did for this one. I was basically done with this season in mid April.

  • I did. Old secret missions. I want to keep everything under a general label instead of naming them off specifically. Otherwise I’d have 7 raids, 4 forges, etc.

  • That kinda made me feel better with sunsetting because I can use my favourite weapons still but also have weapons to do dungeons and high level content with which I'm OK with
