Collections is there to show you what you've collected and what items you've yet to discover. You can also re-acquire items from it such as emblems, shaders, mods and transmats. So if you collect a lot of them you don't risk running out of inventory space. You can delete them from inventory and they can be re-acquired via Collections at a later date.
