Does it seem like Bungie doesn't test anything before Launch

Is it just me, or does it seem Bungie doesn't test anything before they launch it into the game. Im saying this cause their are busted weapons and armor that players automatically recognize that are busted and how they need to be adjusted, yet somehow Bungie still launches them into the game, do they just not properly test anything they make or does everyone there just lack common sense.

  • Probably minimal in-house testing. Among game developers who don't play like gamers play so that exploits and glitches come as a surprise. They didn't see the "bottom of the card" farming in Trials coming. They really should have.

    • Yes, they obviously don’t. Because it’s possible to patch up [b]EVERY SINGLE BUG[/b] in a giant 100+GB game before launching it. You kids are so entitled it’s ridiculous.

      • Seem? Heh They dont. How else can you explain a glitch in a main game mode where power remain enabled for some players from the artifact...or shipping a season with one of obelisks disabled...or...whatever it is this week.

      • I cut them a bit of slack considering that working at home =/= working in the office.           I believe they do test stuff, but maybe their crew is only so big compared to the millions of players that can find more bugs. I wish they would have a check list to go thru before launch. Seems like they fall into the same bugs a lot of the time. Like the menagerie chest glitch, same as house of wolves. Reset glitches, currently for trials, but has been a thing in the past when there is a different reset than on Tues. Emotes that can get thru walls. Can't think of anymore at the moment. If you're talking hardlight, it's meant to be that strong. I don't even think it's that great, it's easy to use and can get cheap kills, but it's possible to outplay it. It will be nerfed in a couple of months, maybe 5. But who knows, maybe the year of the rat is also the year of the hardlight.

          • They are trying to crank out as much content as we got last year WHILE at the same time having 400 fewer people making it. They are also, not only MAKING this content.....they also have to REMOVE content from the game every three months. So they not only have less time to make stuff...and probabaly less time to test stuff. They not only have to make sure that the stuff they're adding works right....they have to make sure that the stuff they're removing doesn't break anything, or cause what they're adding to behave in unpredictable ways. Oh, and they made a network code change on PC so that DDossing is no longer an issue (its why hacking shot up). The only other option is that Bungie stick to their old QA protocols and timetables.....and we get LESS content. Which of course Bungie would get criticized for that too.

            • I can't wait to see what they break this coming Tuesday in their new untested fixes. Probably XP will run backwards and the more you play, the lower your light level will get.

              They never developed the tools for the testers. A.)They need to give testers a range finder tool built in to the test server weapons at all times kind of like darci. So they can ensure weapon range changes can be accurately recorded when they makes changes. Examples: -SG was a great example where this tool would have shown them their curent changes ended up not effecting effective range at all. -Second example would be the blanket changes to the weapons that received a range cap such as pulses and hand cannons, here the testing would have provided a better on basis fix per each arc type and not the entire weapon type. B.)Another tool they lack is proper bug submission forum for the testers that are not in house. They need to create a forum for these hired testers that have a area to explain the steps along with a section to add a link to game play. C.)The last tool is a order of operations. They need to set a process for the testers to always test the common glitches. Example: -Swaping perks then switching it to another to retain both perks such as felwinter's helm as the most recent case like this. but this type of "bug" people have used for a long time in destiny 2 and setting a order of operations testers would have ensured this never occurred. In the end though I am not sure how effective setting up a tester group by experienced hands that have managed these types of groups would do any good though. This is because of Destiny 2 code is trash. Its weird to explain but think of all weapons as interconnected, when you change one it can change others. And Bungie could not pay me enough to work on implementation, hell they could approach me right now and id tell them their spaghetti code is a nightmare and I can see why its such a problem to even add minor fixes. Now their is obviously a number of other things the test group manager would need to as the administrative position and requires all the human resources are evenly divided along problems or have another group test a groups findings. But this is the job of the senior head of the testing division. OO wait they dont have that position! lawl! Kind of sad and funny at the same time.

                    Most game devs these days would rather fix broken shit later than miss a deadline. Watch a reel of glitches from the last WWE game on YouTube. That thing is so ridiculously f'ed up that I have to consider the possibility it's actually just haunted. There's some truth to the matter of testing in controlled environment vs what happens in the wild (as discussed below by Paletero), but I don't think it sufficiently covers this degree of bs, and it's a convenient excuse. Too many games like Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Fallout 76 (just to name a few other glaring examples) have launched horribly broken. It has to be a little of column A and a little of column B with Destiny. Plus, the engine is like the Mir at this point, more welded plate and duct tape than original construction.

                      If they do test their game, they certainly don’t spend a lot of time doing so, or hire any sort of qualified QA testers. Take felwinter’s helm. It’s been disabled for over 3 weeks due to a bug. What was the bug? The simple act of equipping and unequipping the helmet made it so the perk activated on any kill. That’s something anybody would have been able to figure out if they were actually trying to test it in any way.

                      • No they do but the thing is they test it under a very controlled environment, my suppose fix is to add a public test server that applies the changes only on that server and have it open for a week to see how shit really goes back of course all of this requires more work lol

                      • If someone told me Bungie doesn't test anything or their play testers are new borns, I would honestly believe it. There's no reason why some broken exotics like anteaus wards that basically guarantee Titans a win in any close range engagement or Hard Light a auto with maxed recoil control, maxed aim assist, no damage fall off which basically means infinite range, and ricochet rounds that kill so fast you don't have enough time to even react, and this barely covers the lack of common sense or effort Bungie puts into play testing

                        Other studios have PAID players for finding exploits and bugs and bringing it to their attention. Meanwhile Bungie will refuse to even acknowledge a bug involving very basic instructions without a youtube account, further cementing that not only do they not test it, they don't even play it on their own time. That in itself is the loudest statement a studio can make - they don't even play their product.

                      • This is why overwatch has a ptr, they allow players to mess around with stuff before it releases so players fan exploit and abuse it all they want and blizzard only has to fix the issue before it goes live. Thats how destiny should be considering how unbalanced the game is and they had it going with the labs option but no one ever used it because it was only focused on modes rather than sandbox which is what everyone is mostly focused on
