Hi. Thanks for your report.
The "servers are not available" message indicates that there is a connection issue of some kind happening between you and Destiny 2. This may be an internet service provider issue.
Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:
1. A wired connection is recommended to play Destiny, and if your connection is being used for other things when playing the game, such as streaming, it's recommended to quit those programs.

3. Power cycling your internet router
4. Review our guide on improving latency and packet loss to see if that might help
5. Following our Network Troubleshooting Guide for best optimizing your connection to Destiny. If issues persist, try our Advanced Steps Networking Guide for possible router solutions, such as enabling UPnP. You may also want to enable IPV6 on your router if you have it.

7. You may want to change your DNS server on your console to Google's Nameservers (8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4.)
8. Contact your internet service provider to see if there are any issues with your connection.

New update: Bungie, there appears to be some bugs in the Xbox implementation. Here is my sequence this morning: 1) Restarted my Xbox One X (I do this first before all season updates) 2) Attempted to launch D2, received servers unavailable message 3) Checked for console update, found one, applied it 4) Did a full console shutdown then powered back up 5) Checked for game updates on My Games & Apps (applied HBO Go update, nothing for D2), waited for queue to clear 6) Launched D2, it checked for updates, I selected a character and watched the new cutscene with Osiris voiceover 7) At the end of the cutscene, received a content error, after hitting a key, it bounced me out of the game to the title screen 8) Hit A to start D2 again and a very long installing/verifying content screen came up. It just finished. Seems ok now.

I'm seeing this issue as well on my Xbox One X, but I have a console update available this morning, so it might be that. Will reply again if the update and reboots don't fix it.

A reboot didn't fix it, but the console update did.

There running maintenance on the servers, there was an in game notification about 90 mins ago; looks like their still doing maintenance.

I also got this error. Discovered Steam was still updating the game in the background. Once it was complete - no issues.
