That's pretty much all burning maul does. Throw hammer, do heavy attack. That doesn't make it good though. It's strong at killing tougher targets and has a lot of boss damage potential, but in more cases than not, you don't need it. Top tree striker has similar add clear capabilities, although more restrictive due to the number of attacks, but it makes up for that with a shoulder charge melee and better grenade capabilities. Sentinel as a whole offers the best all around ad clear, supportive buffs and boss damage potential. Top tree has bubble or sentinel shield which makes it really versatile. Middle tree has the best neutral game uncontested and ad clear potential is at the highest, while also offering a form of protection for allies. Bottom tree offers a good range of abilities, with regenerating grenades, suppression aoe charged melee and faster super regen. Burning maul has power, but synthoceps on sentinel gets you pretty close to that power while offering a whole lot more viable form of neutral game.
