Evolving guns was always a good idea. Heck, I'll go one step further and admit that I miss unlocking the perk nodes on your guns through use, experience gain, and materials. It made it feel more "yours", in my opinion (and is an example of a meaningful grind). Having a gun drop fully unlocked just made them disposable.

And it made Motes of Light 'meaningful' too. Remember all those useless currencies in D1 until Bungie figured out to how to make them useful? And ugh, just farming for planetary materials. :P I mean, I'm glad you can buy planetary materials now and you don't have to unlock perks to use them, but I agree, I'd rather unlock perks through use than have a restrictive time-gated EC economy to unlock a gun's full potential (and kill counter). I don't even know why Bungie keep making the same game design mistakes, eventually realize their error and fix it... only to throw out said fix and every game design lesson learned when they made D2. Even accounting for different teams working on D1 and D2, most of them presumably work in the same damned building and share information... or they should. :P
