They do not give reasons, as any info on what was detected can be used by cheat devs to try and circumvent detection.

That's assuming the person has used cheats in destiny, which is fair enough. So what happens if we haven't used cheats? Had I been reported by someone, did I get disconneced too often, etc...

If you are having connection issues that would be result in restrictions well before bans.

So I no longer have access to the game after abiding by the rules and there is no way for me to even investigate a potential mistake?

A rule was broken. that is why the account is banned. Bungie's anticheat detected something either in your gameplay or on your rig that it felt it violated the game's policies, it then flagged your account for review, Bungie SRT Staff members then reviewed your account, validated the reason for the flag, confirmed it violated policy, then manually placed the ban.
