Lumina quest doesn’t fit the Last Word / Thorn lore
Reading the datamined quest steps and lore tabs for Lumina it feels like all that “you have a choice to make, Guardian” has been for nothing.
So now our character is making a good guy thorn because we feel so grossed out by the evil one? So I guess the choice has been made for us, 5000 Thorn kills later.
I’m hoping that there will be a quest choice between the two, but so far it reads like we really don’t like Thorn; which flies in the face of all the previous lore about us choosing between being a light/dark hero or allowing ourselves to go full Dredgen Yor.

2 AntwortenChoosing the Darkness is the most idiotic thing you could possibly do. The quest when you actually retrieve the actual Thorn describes how horrible the actual weapon feels when your in proximity to it. I believe it’s likened to your light being drained during the Red War.

Shin’s philosophy is to use both Light and Darkness to become stronger to defend humanity. The OG Thorn is dangerous and will plunge almost anyone into pure Darkness. Turning it into a weapon of pure Light still fits his approach. We have our bootleg Thorn and Malfeasance if we want to kinda use Darkness-ish powers.

10 AntwortenNo, we have our Thorn. Which is basically a refurbished replica. It has no sickness to speak of, since it isnt a corrupted hand cannon and was designed to be what it is. Dredgen Yor's Thorn is becoming Lumina. Rose itself is being reclaimed by us and we're making it ours by purging away the sickness by doing the opposite of what made Rose into Thorn. ... You will not be a Dark Hero, unless you allow yourself to be Taken.

The quest isn’t out yet and I’ve only read a bit of the data mined steps, but to be fair it kinda forced us experimenting with darkness in making thorn. And as other people in this thread have kinda said, the path the game chose for us is controlled darkness. Making Thanos proud, we’ve made a two “dark” hand cannons with Malfeasance and Thorn, and now we’re making two “light” hand cannons with last word and lumina. I don’t see guardians being able to go full darkness mode, as bungie likes allowing every player to do everything (lol solo players), so any darkness we use will have to be watered down and balanced with light. All the allegiance and thin line type stuff and player choice seems to be around siding with characters that best fit our moral compass. For example Vanguard v Drifter and now Calus v Vanguard v Drifter. As of now I think Drifter makes the most sense, as he’s survived a very long time and has actually seen what appears to be more darkness creature things, also he’s willing to get his hands dirty unlike the vanguard. Also Calus is just insanely possessive and has a suicidal god complex. He has cool loot tho.

I for one am happy that we aren’t doing another “use the darkness light alone isn’t enough” Dredgelord quest.
