Datto is the reason Sunsingers and DoTs got nerfed into the ground in D1 Y2. It's okay if you agree with his thoughts, but honestly I would rather read a post of your own feelings on the subject rather than see a Datto video linked because honestly I could give two shits about his opinion on the game.

I had zero issues playing against it. Mained a Striker Titan.

Doesn’t matter if YOU had an issue with it, it was still too strong in PvP, all you had to do as a sunsinger was tagged someone with one bullet after your firebolt and they were dead.

All you had to do after it was nerfed was tag them with a OHK grenade and not worry about firing a bullet. Crazy huh.

Instant Revive Sunsinger and Thorn Trials meta was -blam!-ing cancer, and needed a nerf. If you ran the setup you essentially had 6 lives for the other teams 3 plus no penalties for stopping to revive a teammate in open territory. On top of that you could more than reliably 2 tap between Thorn and the grenades. The only semi-counter was The Messenger pulse which could 2 tap outside of Thorn's range, and that was something you couldn't reliably get your hands on because of how Trials worked at the time.

The ONLY thing annoying about that class was Viking funeral flame bolts. Other wise void for life << I went flawless more on my void -blam!- lock in d1 more than solar. Self res warlocks ate nova bomb and fel winters all day.

1) if you honestly felt that way, there was literally nothing stopping you from running the same setup. That's called [i][b]balanced[/b][/i]. 2) Trials wasn't [i][b]the entire game[/b][/i] and basing balancing decisions [i][b]for the entire game[/b][/i] off of a single game mode that only existed on weekends was not a bad decision.

When one set up sets the bar for competing so high that running anything even slightly different instantly made you a detriment, there is a problem with that set up. It was the biggest crutch to ever exist in a competitive mode in Destiny that wasn't a blatant infinite resource exploit. I'd argue it's the reason it took Bungie until RoI to actually give all the classes useful and powerful exotic armor again.

There were plenty of players that were able to compete not playing sunsingers and not using Thorn and again f****** over damage over time for the entire game because people were pissy about it in trials is stupid.

The fact that it still pisses you off years later, when it's almost entirely irrelevant to the current game design, more or less proves my point. On top of that I don't blame Thorn, I blame Sunsinger. The fact that a class existed that could self rez and rez teammates faster than any other class with virtually no draw backs completely defeated the purpose of Trials being a single life elimination mode entirely. It just exacerbated how powerful the Thorn was because the class and gun worked so well together. You have no -blam!-ing clue what balanced design actually is. Bungie has a better sense of balance than you do and they can't take two steps in any direction steps without knocking something over and breaking it.
