♤ Icarus Bloodstone - Troubleshooter: Page 2 - The Meeting

Early morning tower walks are usually peaceful, and quite relaxing. Most guardians are just getting back from some late night patrols, tagging in the early worms for their shifts around the galaxy. But for the Titan vanguard, the shipright, and a trouble maker named Icarus, this morning is a bitter cold ceremony walk down to Ikora. Commander Zavala doesn't even look at Icarus while he cradles the pieces of his ghost. Amanda usually doesn't come along for these Vanguard meetings, but she's almost always the one pulling him out of chaos at the last second, so she decided she tag along for her report. As they reach the bazaar, the city folk almost choke on their own silence. Zavala never comes to the bazaar unless something serious is taking place. The stares don't help Icarus feel any better, not like he cares anyways though. "Ikora," his voice cuts the silence like a Quickfang. "Are we ready then?" Ikora turns towards the group and almost chuckles. This is far from the first time the vanguard has had to talk to him about his reckless behavior. "Of course. Amanda, will you be joining us today?" "Oh, yeah. Figured ya'll might wanna hear my side of the tale, too." Amanda bounces as if they were about to play a game. "This way," she gestures toward the New Monarchy tents nearby, and with a single raise of her hand, the executor and everyone inside clears out without hesitation. "Shall we begin, then?" Ikora takes a seat with grace only seen by falling leaves. Amanda cross her legs and sits on a cushion next to Icarus, who kneels down, still poking and prodding at tiny ghost bits. Zavala stays standing, arms crossed, and clears his throat. "Icarus Bloodstone. How many times do we have to tell you what restricted means?" His voice is right in that spot between talking and yelling, and it's almost worse than just yelling. "You are a guardian of the city and-" Before he can finish, Icarus drops his shoulders and lets out a sigh even Hawthorne can hear from her balcony. "What has this city done for us? Do you even hear the people talk??" He stands up and points at a few bystanders that, in his words, 'can't seem to mind their own damn business.' At this point, Cayde-6 strides in, almost as if walking down the red carpet. "Sorry I'm late- wait.. no I'm not. So, what did I do this time, huh?" He puts his hands out as if to be arrested, then looks to Icarus. "Wait... is this an actual meeting? I'm not in trouble?" He seems genuinely surprised. "Unless there's something we should know, Cayde, no, you're not. Your guardian here stepped into the Cosmodrome... Again." Ikora is unimpressed with both Hunters. Cayde makes the sound of smacking his lips, smiles and says, "Aww, they grow up so fast, look at chu." "This is serious business, Cayde." Zavala speaks to him as if he were his child, and he treats him that way, too. "Since the Red War, we need to make sure we are protecting the city and its people with everything we've got. We can't have guardians off scavenging restricted areas whenever they feel like it. It puts everything we stand for at risk." "Everything you stand for." Icarus snaps at Zavala, the heat in his eye burns with anger. "I didn't ask to be your little 'hero' you know. None of us did." His stance is one of battle, even though he knows he's no match for the full force of the vanguard under the watchful eyes of the city. Instead, the air froze with bewilderment. Even Amanda was taken away by the statement. A moment of silence went by before Icarus clenched his ghost, flicked his cloak, and left the tent. Fury scorched his face red with hate. Why should he listen to these people? They were no different than he was. What makes them so special anyways? Icarus was about to transmat out when he felt a hand grab his shoulder. He smacked it off and spun to face the vanguard commander, only to see instead Cayde, holding his hand as if he were hurt. "Hey, hey, relax buddy. I just wanna talk to you real quick like before you *poof* outta here again." His exo face wasn't the most expressive, but it was still easy enough to see he was truly trying here. Icarus lowered his head and sighed. "I'm sorry, Cayde. I just don't know who you guys think I am. I'm not the hero-type, you know? Leave that to Shaxx or something." His anger quickly faded to a pout. Cayde, trying his best to be comforting, changes the topic a bit. "Look, you're a Hunter, right? You're supposed to be wild and unruly. Look at me!" He gestures to his entire self with the biggest of smiles. "My point is, you're not alone, okay? I've got your back. It's what it means to be a guardian, guardian! It's what fireteams are built on." He pats his back twice. Icarus squints, "Jeez, you sound like Zavala now." "Look at me. Don't you ever, ever say that to me again." He looks 'very serious' when he says this. "Let me let you in on a lil secret secret i've been working on." Cayde puts his arm around Icarus' back and walks toward the hanger. They get lost on the crowd of people as the lunch rush fills the bazaar with hungry people and merchants shouting new goods at lower prices.
