“Masterwork cores have a misleading name”
Do they though? Are you sure they just weren’t made for Masterworking stuff, then unnecessarily thrown into the new infusion system? Saying that their name is misleading is like saying “TV Remote” is a misleading name because you decided use it to beat the shit out of someone.
Why is this community so bad at analogy?
It more like saying “TV Remote” is a misleading name because although they were originally meant to control your TV, most today control multiple devices.

Actually his analogy was better. In yours the remote is still doing its original function l, controlling electronics. Just to more items. If Masterworks now worked on ships and sparrows you would be correct same functionality new items. That’s not what happened to MW. Masterworks are now serving a new function infusion. That is a different function than original intent. Thus the using a remote for assault was more accurate.
-
Nope. They still serve as a component in improving items by raising stats. They just help raise LL now as well. Infusing is quite similar in function to masterworking. It’s certainly not as far off as the difference between controlling your TV and killing someone.

Get back on the short bus, pls_

Other way around, kid.

I’d say the analogy holds up until you subject it to unnecessarily deep comparison. Analogies don’t need to be perfect and by nature are not so. Bungie is calling a name misleading because they changed its purpose after the fact. Op is comparing that to saying the name “tv remote” is misleading because someone changes its purpose after the fact. That’s as deep as the comparison needs to go to express his point that the logic is pretty stupid. Going any deeper is unnecessary because it doesn’t change or dilute his point. Him choosing to make the new purpose of tv remotes more eye catching doesn’t change what the analogy means and makes his argument more appealing. Being nit picky in this case is pointless.
-
You also have no idea how analogies work, nor, apparently, how to read. I did not say analogies had to be perfectly parallel in order to work. That would make analogies pointless. Nor is OP just complaining that the name was changed “after the fact.” Not only is “after the fact” the only time something can be changed, but OP’s inept analogy tries to make the case that the cores were suddenly changed to a completely unique and different purpose, with the name change designed somehow to conceal that fact. Instead, the new use for the cores is simply a logical evolution more in line with the comparison I used, and changing the name is simply an outgrowth if that.
-
Well you just contradict the purpose of your silly analogy 🤔
-
Oh, look: someone else who doesn’t understand analogies.
-
You’re funny lol
-
lol anal
-
Whether it’s a logical evolution is your opinion. I’m my mind, the name change is just as ridiculous whether you compare it to beating someone with a remote or using the remote to turn on your toaster (I consider universal remotes to be separate from tv remotes by the way, because each appliance would have its own remote and universal remotes are a new product that can apply to all of them).
-
Logic really doesn’t seem to be your thing. There’s a reason one would refer to a “remote,” instead of a TV remote, and your toaster example is just as unnecessarily dramatic—and wrong—as OP’s blunt weapon comparison. Masterworking improves weapons. So does infusing. It’s hardly a stretch to require the same material as basis for the process. It’s okay not to like the change. But get over the childish notion that not liking something means it’s somehow wrong.
-
Master working and infusion are completely different processes with completely different purposes. You’re simplifying things this much, but you’re nit picking other simplification? Masterwork cores are specifically named masterwork cores because they are used for masterworking. Infusion is not masterworking. They aren’t even similar. The only connection is that they improve your weapon in a very vague sense. I don’t see how my toaster example is wrong considering there are toasters that use remote control. You’ve spent more time trying to call me stupid than actually making any sense.
-
If you could think, you’d know you just undermined your own argument.
-
Now you just sound like you’re fronting with nothing to back it up.
-
Sure. First you say analogies don’t have to be exact to be valid, then you try to tell me that just because masterworking and infusing both improve an item, that they’re not perfectly similar enough to justify the comparison. You can’t logic.
-
Bearbeitet von THEHenwithaTieBodyPillow: 9/29/2018 8:08:32 PMI’m simply showing that you’re inconsistently evaluating the arguments. You’re holding yourself to a lower standard. The contradiction you attributed to me first came from you.
-
Not at all. You’re simply not being logical, and you prove over and over you’ve no idea what analogies are or what they’re for. You’re just upset Bungie’s done something you don’t like, and are trying to make it out that it’s therefore incorrect.
-
I really love the replies that boil down to, “you’re wrong, I’m right”. No explanation, no reflection. You’re not great at this man.
-
Wow! You’re right: I’ve spent no time at all explaining in great detail how analogies work and why the original missed the mark. None. At all. Whatever was I thinking?
-
Well I mean you can explain something, but once someone counters, you’re supposed to explain your own counter. Otherwise it’s not a conversation. It’s just one guys shouting the same thing over and over while someone tries to talk to him.
-
Except nothing you’ve said is the least bit logical, and your is samples are ridiculous. As I’ve explained.
-
I could say the same about you lol. The difference is that in the interest of keeping up conversation, I don’t waste my time doing so.
-
In your version of the analogy, those other non-TV devices would be the equivalent of beating the shit out of someone for my analogy.
