I'm kinda worried about Anthem. The most important part to me will be the story and so far they haven't said much of anything and what they have said worries me because it sounds like Destiny levels of bad story telling. "Make you own story" never makes me feel good about a game's story... They have been getting some things very right though. Story DLC is free, no loot boxes, match making for everything, you don't have to exit the game to change "classes", no PvP, one big world rather than a few small ones and a lot more verticality. It seems they are also trying to make team work a bigger thing too, because some javelins abilities can combo with other's.

  • Basically it's just Destiny, except NPC conversations only have two dialogue options, and your "choices" only ever impact the personal hub. From the makers of the most impactful universe full of the most well written characters in the industry, this falls flat in every way except maybe combat. If they made it offline-capable, whatever, I'll try it; but they've made it online-only, which has never been my cup of tea, so I'm not spending sixty bucks for something I can only sometimes play in specific places.

  • The overall story could still be good. The guy who was the lead writer for Mass Effect 1 and 2 was also the lead wrier for Anthem.

  • I don't doubt the story, just how they're implementing it. Changes being restricted to only the personal hub and dialogue options only having polar choices with NPCs is pretty damn bare bones for a friggin' Bioware game, y'know? Not a fan of the overbearing trend of online games focusing on players putzing around with friends instead of an immersive gameworld. But hey, that's what Cyberpunk 2077, Metro: Exodus, and Sekiro will be for.
