Help needed with the 360 USB option

Hello, I'm a longtime Bungie fan and unfortunately I haven't been able to check out the Destiny series until now. I ran into the problem where the game just won't fit on my whole, 20GB harddrive after the system space is included. I saw that there was an option to install the game to a USB drive and I had a couple of questions that don't seem to be answered on the help article here >: 1. How does this affect the game performance? I don't have much tech knowledge but wouldn't this be slower than a hard drive install? I've never heard of playing a 360 game from a USB drive, what should I expect from this? Has anyone played through much of the game this way? 2. Would I need to delete my game files and redownload them all onto the drive? Unfortunately I figured out that I wasn't going to have enough space after I downloaded almost all of it. The updates haven't been giving me the option to choose where to put them either, unless maybe it did at the very beginning. I assume everything would have to be on the USB? I've never heard of this, and any help would be appreciated.

For an update, I picked up a USB drive and moved about 2GB from Pack 5 onto it. It was simple to move the files, I juggled some of them around but it wasn't much trouble. It seems to be working fine for the base game. It takes about 6 seconds to load the inventory screen and to talk to people, which looks like it's going to be a big deal later, but I looked it up and it seems to be inherent to the 360 version itself, not the drive. So I just always wanted to run through base game of Earth, Mars, and Venus and it's working well enough for that. Obviously for getting deeper into the game, the way I'm experiencing it now is not optimal, but I'm finally getting to try it.

Hello, I came to bump into this way back when the Taken King was going to release on last-gen consoles, it was a Activion support page on how to transfer Destiny files into a USB storage device. https://support.activision.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/Transferring-Destiny-Files-from-Hard-Drive-to-USB-Storage-Device-on-Xbox-360 Also, I may let you know that if done this way sometimes you might encounter some audio issues. I can't remember if there were any performance issues. You don't need to delete anything, it should just give you the option to select the storage device. Just make sure you have enough space on your USB storage. That's all I can remember really, I never done this myself so if you can find any tutorials on how to do it; it would be a lot better.

The ability to install the game files to a USB came with a content update. If you're unable to get to that content update with your current hard drive because it's unable to hold all the updates, then your only option is to upgrade your hard drive so you can get to that content update, after which you'll be able to install to an external USB. If I remember correctly, your hard drive needs to have at least 7G free (on the 20G hard drive [meaning it's pretty much entirely empty with very little on it]) in order to get to that content update; anything less won't be enough storage and you'll need to delete stuff. There's no option on where to install it. If you can get to the content update and it's good to go, then Destiny installs everything to the hard drive that it can and only then starts to install files to the USB-connected device. Deleting your game files won't really do anything as when you go to install it, it'll install it right back to the hard drive first. Moving them also isn't a valid option, as it seems to know where the content files were installed, and if it doesn't detect them on the drive it installed them, it acts like the don't exist and then proceeds to download them again (personal experience of trying exactly that). If you want to avoid that, you'd have to put enough data on the hard drive so that Destiny can't place any extra files there so that it only installs to the external. There can be noticeable issues when using a USB-connected drive to play the game such as extended loading times or sounds cutting out on occasion as it's loading the data, so the best option would be to upgrade whatever storage you have instead of using a USB-connected external storage option, but using an external is a viable option if necessary. It may just take some extra work as mentioned above. (I should also mention that I vaguely remember trying to put extra data on the 20G hard drive so it installed to external and then deleting the extra data, and next time I launched Destiny, I think Destiny still tried to install files to the hard drive since there was now room, even though the content files were properly installed on the external, but it's been a long time and I might be misremembering. I had a newer Xbox 360 but my stepfather had an old one with the external mount, so we tried a lot of stuff, but it has been a very long time since I dealt with this issue, so if any information I give is wrong because of my bad memory, I apologize.)
