It just seems strange that you'd finally give us the ability to apply shaders to weapons for Destiny 2, but not give the exotics the same treatment. Ornaments could still change the default color, but it makes more sense for the ornaments' main purpose to be changing the geometry or patterns. There's a lot of ornaments that I like and want to use, but I don't like the new color(s) *cough* Jade Rabbit *cough* and end up just keeping it on the default skin on most of the time instead.
Maybe even have the requirement for applying a shader is that it needs to be a masterwork first? This might be that extra incentive/bonus for players to masterwork a favorite exotic, really allowing them to make it their own.
