What do I like about Destiny 2???

As shocking as it may seem, there are things to really like about Destiny 2, even if you're a veteran player with 2k plus hours in Destiny.
I know, right? Who would have thought
1. I like the world design and skyboxes - I think that Bungie has created some of it's best level designs and environments in Destiny 2. And that's saying something when you consider their history of Halo and Destiny. The infinite forest looks amazing. I sometimes just stand there and stare around me, trying to understand the monolithic scale of it all. It took my breath away when I first entered it. All the planets are grandiose and beautiful to inhabit and traverse. There is so much grount to cover and even though some of it is not utilized for combat or story content, it's still enjoyable to walk around in. 2. I like the improved enemy designs and their combat techniques. - All the various races and their units have more fleshed out strategies and combat mechanics than in Destiny. There aren't hard to fight against, if you're a seasoned FPS veteran, but they are still fun to fight against. For example, in heroic difficulty Adventures some of them can be outright frustrating to deal with, like the shield Cabal or Hive Knight or Vex hobgoblins. They regen health and just hide behind cover until you engage them in cqc. At which point their friends quickly overwhelm you. AND THAT'S GOOD. They are supposed to not let you chip away at them from afar with a scout rifle. I just wish they had more strenghts/weaknesses like the "Elite combo" or the back-smack assassinations in Halo. 3. I like the scanable items on every planet - These things extend the exploration lifetime of the game, because they aren't shown on any map and collecting them all gives players more story and lore hints that deepen the whole experience. I still miss the grimoire, but this is a good addition to the game. 4. I like the amount of story and side missions - It's a lot for a vanilla game that isn't solely focused on a single player campaign. Remember, the Halo games only had 10-12 missions each and you could breeze through them in like 3 hours on Normal difficulty. What I did was unlock a planet, do all of the missions (killing everything in sight), available Adventures and Lost sectors and thoroughly explore the whole place. Only then would I move on to the next planet. Believe it or not, that process actually takes a while. It really does. The downside is that I was always overleveled when I touched down on a new planet, but hey. If you speedrun the game it's your own damn fault. I do wish that Destiny 2 had global difficulty options, so I could play all of the missions on heroic at will and I hope that gets introduced soon. Heroic Adventures in Mercury are great, but that needs to get extended to all Adventures and Meditations. 5. I like the new Strikes. - I played the Destiny strikes so many times that I can do all of them blindfolded with a white Khvostov, while reciting every dialogue line perfectly. I used to live in the strike playlists for weeks on end. The Destiny 2 strikes are great. I like them. They offer some improvements to the old formula and I aplaud that. The environments and levels look great, especially Piramidion (my favorite). And the idea of having the new Mercury strikes be part of the Curse of Osiris campaign is brilliant. I just wish the were individually selectable from their respective planets and had selectable difficulty options and OPTIONAL MATCHMAKING (meaning I could go in and solo them on Heroic). 6. I like the new legendary weapons - The foundry weapons looke and sound a lot more unique. You can really find your own style with them. I found my niche in the EDZ weapons (Call to Serve, Scatloche) and the Mercury forge weapons. I bought the DLC for one specific reason. To get and use Garden Progeny 1. That's my jam. I play like that. The meta is of very little concern to me. I like the Destiny vanilla style of scout rifle and Progeny is as close to that as I can get in Destiny 2 so far. And I'll take it. I played Destiny for 3 years basically for only one reason. To shoot scout rifles at stuff. Yeah that's not all, but in the very core of things, that's what I fell in love with. You know who Deej loves his SUROS Regime? That how I feel about the Progeny 1. So having more uniqueness and variety between Veist and Omolon and Suros is a good thing. I'm not a fan of most of them, but that's the point. I don't have to be. I found my style in the EDZ and Mercury guns. Someone else might not even consider using the EDZ guns, but is wild about Veist. That's fine. In short in like that all the guns have more character to them. 7. I like the specific rolls on weapons and armor - It took me a looong time to come to terms with this one, but the more I though about it the more I came to appreciate this approach. It makes every gun unique and it's a lot easier to balance the game around it. Nameless Midnight is a scout rifle with this one utility and every other version is the same. It does explosive damage on impact and is a middle of the pack impact scout. The Garden Progeny 1 is a high impact scout designed for quick headshot combat. It reloads quickly if you consistently land headshots and can clear a room as fast as you can land your shots. Masterworks did add to this formula a bit, but in a way that enhanced one this, while not changing the gun's identity. I think I typed enough for one day :)
