Unironically begging for the illusion of choice in a game called Destiny: These forums need some self-awareness.

Do you want random rolls to return? Do you know why? If you said yes to both, odds are, your answer has something to do with the "depth" they added to the game, or that they gave you something to grind/hope for. Sacrificing the game's balance to tickle the brain stems of chronic gamblers was never something I really liked about D1, and I'm glad it's gone. The truth is that, despite random rolls adding a lot of apparent variety to the game, everyone still tried to get the same guns. You didn't kill Omnigul fifteen hundred times because you wanted a Grasp of Malok with graverobber, you (and everyone else) did it so that you could get one with Counterbalance. And why did you want that particular gun? Did it speak to you as a player and your unique special star playstyle? No, you wanted it because you wanted to be on an even playing field with those who had it, or to have an advantage against players who didn't. You can try to tell me you ground for guns in PvE like Imago Loop etc., but really, there were no competitive PvE activities in D1, so there's no reason to not want your teammates to have access to the best weapons, unless you're a dick who wants to feel special for dumping the most money in the slot machine (I have definitely played with those people though, so don't think I'm saying this doesn't happen). Well guess what? Bungie did the right thing and removed those barriers to balanced play for the most part. There are still some (good) guns with extremely low drop rates (which is gross), but there are top-tier weapon sets (MIDA+Last Hope, Adjudicator+Scout, Anything+Uriel's) that can be found within a few hours of reaching level 20. The slot machine is gone, or at least no longer relevant, and you're begging them to make you play it again. Why? I think it's because getting rid of it got rid of your hope/excuse. Even in Destiny 1, it didn't take that long to get a competitive set of equipment. By competitive I mean that a good player could do anything in the game with it, and a great player didn't even need something that good. That said, there was always the hope at the back of your mind that one day something truly "broken" would drop for you, that you would be "chosen" to have an advantage. That, again, is (psychologically) ugly, and is not something we should sacrifice balance for, or ask to have validated. The "reward" you receive for extended play is the experience you gain from it. Disregarding how ridiculous it is to be proud of "earning" something from a slot machine, the tactics you learned from grinding crucible were significantly more valuable than the situational advantage you gained from having one range perk over the other. TL;DR: Grind for the ticks on your banners; they mean way more than a "God-Roll" gun does anyways.

You’re not completely correct. Random rolls made (almost) any gun viable in some way. Slow ROF scouts weren’t usually the best in D1, but you could work to find one with perks you liked and worked for you. That would be especially useful in this game, considering so many guns that drop for me are just “meh”. The perks don’t matter on so many of these and it’s frustrating. I don’t want a slow ROF scout to have better hip fire accuracy, that’s useless to both a slow ROF and any scout rifle in general, I want it to have (personally) something like firefly, outlaw, zen moment. All perks that actually make a gun fun to play with, and justifiable to use vs other guns. I don’t give a shit about “wanting a reason to feed the addiction that is this game”, I care about having something new and fun to play with every week. That’s what kept me playing in D1 and it’s what’s keeping me from playing in D2.
