EDIT / update : After some kind, (or not really) recommendations in this thread, my opinion has changed considerably. I started focusing on the Radar way more than i originally though was necessary, and my deaths to swords became increasingly rare. I'm coming from more rushy / fast paced FPS like Quake and Promod - COD2/4, so my play-style had to change fundamentally.
Original Post :
In a game like Call of Duty, where the TTK is less than a second, a lethal melee attack makes sense. It is a high risk / high reward move.
In a game like Destiny, where it takes a realistic average of 1.5-2 seconds to kill, a lethal melee attack is un-counterable in almost any situation. Swords make the game considerably less skill-based. Adding slide, blink, and the fact that swords have a native dash animation in the equation, it gets silly, really fast.
inb4 power ammo. If power ammo wasn't limited the game would just become Blade & Soul.
If you really want a competitive fps, don't give players with zero aim the ability to get a triple kill just because they waited in a corner with sword ammo. Every playstyle needs to have an answer. Just accepting the fact that some people will prioritize getting power ammo and cheese their way to victory is not a solution.
The only sword play you see is Hunters with Quickfang and the best way to deal with them is either by using a shotgun or a super...oh...
