Probably been suggested before, have you tried disabling Vsync in game and using NV control panel to apply it? That is what I am doing and I seem to have minimal stuttering. Of course, only if you're usin an NV card.

I've just tested it. It's a placebo. The game behaves the same way with both v-sync options. Nvidia's v-sync just made the game less smooth overall. The best way to play smoothly at least until the game's internal problem make it stutter, is windowed fullscreen with v-sync on, so window's native triple buffering will apply.
