The Journal of a Lone Hunter

Entry 646, Never really spent much time behind the walls of the tower, but I never realized how important they were to me. It was an average September day. Some Guardians were already preparing ahead for their yearly festivities. Others were making their rounds to the venders. I had arrive only a few moments ago to register ahead of time for sparrow racing, one of the few activities I actively participated in. The sky was dark, and storm clouds were brewing. My ghost chattered in the distance with some of her friends while I conducted my business with the shipwrights. The new modification to my sparrow had just come in and I was ensuring that my racing sparrow was up to par with standard SRL procedure. I heard explosions rattle in the distance. The tower was on red alert; all guardians loaded up for the fight that was about to ensue. However, none of them were ready for what came next. Kate ran to my side, nagging me about how I should help the others. "Are you even listening to what their screaming on the coms? They're saying it's an invasion!"-Kate "You're panicking...stop it. It's not really the right time to be telling me what to do."-Hunter "You have a habit not paying attention."-Kate "Says the one who forgets where we are half the time."-Hunter "That only happened once!"-Kate "You forgot that we were in orbit and opened the air lock"-Hunter "Cabal!"-Kate We stopped our arguing and returned to the fight at hand. After taking out a legion or two of cabal, we found our way to the plaza. We fought on, helping a few Guardians out of a choke hold who were still moving their loot from the vaults. "You should probably do the same, you might need some more weapons. Yours won't last forever and you never carry enough glimmer for and weapon parts for me to fix them in a large scale battle like this."-Kate "Get out of the line of fire, it's gonna be a lot harder to revive you than it is for you to revive me."-Hunter "Fine...just a least think about it, you might actually ne......"-Kate I didn't let her finish. I ran underneath Zavala's shield before the ground beneath us shattered. When the dust cleared, the vault was destroyed. "No! My favorite shell was in there!"-Kate "That shell is in my ship."-Hunter "Good, now kill those Cabal for destroying your Hawkmoon."- Kate "Wasn't my hawkmoon in my secret cache in near Felwinter's peak?"- Hunter "No, now burn them all"- Kate It wasn't just my old loot getting destroyed, It was all of it. The families evacuating, the Guardians being pushed back, everything happening all at once. This place, these people. This was a place I could call home, gone. My rage burned within me. I always thought of myself as a night stalker. One who attacked from the shadows and hid from glory. Today, what I wanted to be didn't matter. My light burned hot, and I was going to use it. I raised my hand into the air and summoned forth a flame that burned hotter than that of any other beside me. I fired a round into the crowd and they burned away in an instant. Two more rounds were fired into the air. A dozen ships fell from the sky. Electrified, I called forth a blade of lightning and cleared a path in the enemy forces. In my rage, I came across Cayde-6 as he continued to fight off the enemy forces. He joked of how he hoped that they would let him out of the tower for a while as they reassembled the vanguard. I payed no heed as I unleashed my fury on the Cabal. But everything would change in a single moment. "Look, they're putting something on the traveler!"-Kate "Summon my modded sparrow, everything's about to change."-Hunter Only seconds after my sparrow finished transmatting, the foul contraption had done its work. Kate fell to the ground and I was helpless to stop it. The ghosts that day all were rendered helpless, but because of my excessive use of my light just a few moments ago, she was rendered exhausted. She had used the last moments before the Traveler was captured to infuse my armor with an extreme amount of light. I grabbed her from the ground and hopped onto my sparrow. "The guardian who went to face Gaul, they're falling from the command ship." -Kate Without a word, I disengaged my sparrow's stabilizers and raced on to save the Guardian from their death. That Guardian was a friend of Kate's, and I was going to save every Guardian I could that day. My sparrow was demolished, but the Guardian survived. I would have carried them out of the city, but I had to draw attention away from them. More importantly, I had to find a way to bring my ghost away from the brink of death. She wasn't just a machine, she was my friend. I walked away from the city with no light and a dying ghost. They took everything. And you know what. The Red Legion has messed with the wrong Guardian.
