What's with the length of the D2 Beta?

I mean, this topic isn't just isolated to Destiny 2 but could be applied to almost any game from any developer in the industry that releases a playable beta for their game. The problem being, as you've probably read in the topic, the length of the beta and how short it is. Unless i'm mistaken, the point of a beta is surely to gain data and iron out any bugs and glitches that may be discovered so the finished product when it's released in September is more or less complete and balanced. Logic dictates that the longer you have an open beta, the more bugs, glitches and balancing issues will be discovered and rectified... so why is the D2 Beta only open for 5 days (3 if you didn't pre-order the game)? I mean, the fact that it's cut short by two days if you didn't pre-order it is a sh**ty practice in and of itself and is a topic for another time but even if you did give in and pre-order 5 days is still a measly time for a beta. I remember when betas used to last at least a week if not longer, most of them did run longer, and the games at the end were pretty damn great! Just talking about the beta length of Bungie games; Halo 3's ran for weeks both open and closed (I couldn't find an exact length of time unfortunately), Halo Reach's lasted 17 days and even Destiny 1's beta lasted a week! So why is Destiny 2's so short? I hope Bungie extends the beta or releases a second one later on before the game comes out because, in my opinion, this is just ridiculous. Any thoughts, anyone?
