Those emblems are different than once that are just obtained in game. Those that are redeemed are connected to an Xbox Live profile through your Bungie profile due to it being the connection.
Think of the emblem as Point A, and your Guardian as Point B. Your Bungie profile is the link between those; since you abandoned your Bungie profile that link is now lost.
