So your satisfaction comes from being able to tease your friends about beating them. The grimoire is just icing for you.
So I go back to my point that you are playing against your friends for a different reason.
Go ahead and smack talk your friends. You are playing them to play against them. Why do you need the grimoire score on top of that?

Why do you need it? You don't. Same reasons you gave me. You want the wins and a way of commemorating them. So, why can't we both get what we want? Why are you so adamant that the game that you DID NOT DESIGN be played only the way you want it played? If you want a game that follows your own rules, go make one. Bungie designed this one, they made the rules, and they understand their are different types of players of this game and have made it a pretty inclusive space.
