Guardians are literally invincible. Kill them and their ghost just brings them back.

Despite Destiny having a crap story at least in one of the first missions you see a dead guardian in the moon showcasing that they captured the ghost making the Guardian weak and mortal. Should I say it again with TTK? Where one hunter gotten killed in combat fighting against a couple of robots (or the Vex after remembering what they are called*). If the "Darkness" can kill them [i]easily[/i] (lore wise not in-game obviously) then I think even the Spartans can kill them easily as well.

If you can catch a ghost. Read the lore on the cabal. There's a grimoire where the cabal discuss kill guardians and how they are unable to stop the ghosts from resurrecting them. It's not an easy task. Even so a guardian is a formidable foe.
