I think you are over generalising. Our guardians will be carried over but the story behind them is rather bland so new players will see that there guardians is a badass and go on

I can see that. But I can also see players saying "Oh man, it took them a year to get that gear... I don't really wanna do that." and leaving.

Players do not think that way. I don't play WOW, see a max player walk past and just go meh I'm done. It inspires more than stomps out

How don't know why they would give up. Max level isn't hard to get and you are not that disadvantaged until than anyway

I use to play game called deepolis on pc game ran itself into the ground but besides that all the players I met were max lvl (200) instead of getting intimidated I fought my ass off and soon I was lvl 200 and one of the best fighters on the game with all good gear and when I first played destiny I saw a guy (a warlock) with full trials gear thought damn I wanna be like that guy and now my warlock looks just like his did
