Let's be honest, Destiny has survived through the release of many major game releases- the only game that's going to "kill" Destiny is its sequel. The way I see it, though- it doesn't matter. Destiny 2 will fail because Bungie won't figure out how to balance new and old players.
As Destiny is a Teen Rated franchise, and Bungie has already implemented to ease new players into the game with every update since launch, then it's a sure thing that they will try their hardest to ensure players who are hopping on the Destiny bandwagon with the second one will find an easy transition. The problem, of course, is how older players will fit in. There are three options, in my opinion, for what will happen:
1.
Bungie will make the game too new player friendly. Old players will not feel further obligated to play the game past the initial fun of the content. Veterans will feel like they have to learn the game all over again. They may receive a special emblem or a shader. This will result in older players not feeling like it's worth it to continue their Guardian's story, and they will quit.
2.
Bungie will make a game too old player friendly. The story will directly continue from Destiny with no help for new players as to the context of the game- new players will be redirected to the Grimiore to learn the first year of the game's life. This will force them away, and Destiny's fanbase will remain as lonely and deserted as it is now until they try again with the third Destiny.

Bungie perfectly balances the old/new player content. However, they spend so much time getting this right, they have no time
to work on the game itself and Destiny 2 becomes a content starved, balance starved, fun starved game.
Discuss.

4 AntwortenGood sir, you are wrong. Destiny 2 is q 4.7/5 now defend your statement

I agree there is nothing new!! You fight the same enemies and there is nothing new to explore! On every mission you travel to point A to point C and shoot up some enemies while you go! It is really boring and I won't spend my money on destiny 2. If i want to play destiny, I will play destiny 1! It is like another destiny 1 dlc!

1 AntwortenI'm pretty sure more than you think will be completely okay with a fresh start. Our Guardian became lost in time and that's where we pick up or some shit. I honestly don't want anything carrying over beside grimoire score.

1 AntwortenBungie's already done damage to the next game sales wise by tarnishing their rep with even the most diehard Destiny fanboys. Everyone is going to wait for the reviews or get it used/on sale.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Drew Peacock: 4/11/2016 2:54:59 AMBungie will keep doing what their corporate masters (Activision) dictates until their contract is up. Maximize profits while doing minimal work by reskinning old content and making you run it backwards for a chance at winning reskinned exotic legendaries.

50 AntwortenDestiny 2 will definitely have less sales then destiny 1. There is no way some people are ever gonna get back (like me)
-
1 AntwortenIts a strong possibility, but what is a certainty, is that most people who bought destiny wont fall for the hype train again. I have a feeling most people will either wait until the reviews, unless activision forces the reviewers to wait again like they did at launch for destiny in order to capitalize on profits before the 5-6/10 reviews would impact the game. Or most people will just not bother. The fans will buy the game regardless of anything. But i think the first theory is morel likely to happen, people will just wait for reviews.

1 AntwortenFirst of all bungie should've made destiny rated M cause then they can go all out on shit and not give a -blam!- about restrictions
-
2 AntwortenThey might make Destiny 2 M hopefully

5 AntwortenI hope they don't make a "Destiny 2" but just keep updating Destiny. Kinda like WoW

Regardless I'm getting number 2..I enjoyed my time on the first (don't know about anyone else) but that's what happens when you play a game just as a way to relax and don't take the game too seriously....that's what really is going to kill this game
-
Or... Not...

Most of this games drawbacks are undoubtedly from console limitations. As soon as 360 and PS3 are left behind (which I'm sure is happening with D2), that gives Bungie a lot more room to work with. I've put a lot of time into this game. You could put me in that veteran category. I personally wouldn't mind starting fresh with D2 if it meant the game was going to have significant improvements. Bungie has been down this road before, and oftentimes sequels outshine their predecessor. Halo 2 > Halo 1, Assassin's Creed 2 > Assassin's Creed 1, etc. I'm sure the story will still flow with what's happened in D1. If anything, D2 is the game that would save this franchise

If anyone starts a game franchise on the 2nd instalment...your doing it wrong...

Because a game that hasn't released, nor has been revealed, will definitely flop. We don't know a damn thing about Destiny's sequel.
-
no it won't.
-
I sure a lot of people would think the same right now but wait for the trailers, adverts and the hype train wheels to get in motion, the reveals on twitch with masses of numbers of new and I quit players intrigued to see if bungie get it right. The fact destiny one has had so much said about it could contribute to more interest. I'd be surprised if they get the launch of a new game, be it a follow up wrong again.

but that hype video tho
