There will be 100 available to use on launch in November (no date confirmed). If you have access to the preview program you can play a limited variety now.
Except games for the original Kinect there is no game that isn't backwards compatible from 360. Those that you can access you can also play online.
If you have Ultimate Gears you get the all four of the original games (digital) to download for free (if you didn't have them anyway) once BC launches. =}

Well, thanks for the in-depth response! I had a 360, then moved to PS4 for next gen. But there are just some games i want that are on Xbox, like Ultimate Gears and Titanfall, because the mrs and i loved playing Gears together.

Gears is Love, Gears is Life. Also to be clear on Banes point the only games that will not eventually be back compat is if the publisher tells MS they don't have permission to do it
-
Nice, thanks for clarifying :)

No problem. Every 360 game is eligible to be on backwards compatible but it's up to the publishers to give them the ok. All MS owned games of course will be back compat and gears four is next year probably. That bundle with gears ultimate, Ori, and Rare replay looks awesome
-
I'm going to be pissed if certain publishers don't give Microsoft the ok and then release a "remastered" version of the game that's actually just the exact same game made to run on the Xbox One.

Rumor is Activision has said no to MS. EA has seemingly said yes. So has Ubisoft although it's unclear if they will include all or just a select few.

Well apparently they only whore themselves out to Sony now.
