A Dreg's Promise: Chapter 15: part 2

Chapter Index: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/128755126/0/0 part 1: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/152140387 Chapter 15: To Kill A Prime (part 3) Now halfway up the mountain, the Guardians began to tire out. Elain could be heard wheezing, and the Exos' joints were starting to creak and stutter. They found a small alcove and decided to camp there for the night. Elain began to setup a small fire while Kryptic made Void energy dance in his palms. Marcus stood silently, staring out at the snowy mountain range that stretched on as far as the eye could see. The Guardians took off their helmets and huddled in the alcove. After a few tries, Elain finally got a fire going, and started to heat some of her food that she had brought with her. Marcus turned to the flame and sat down next to his friends, staring solemnly. Elain noticed the distant gaze of the Exo, "What's wrong Marcus?" Marcus didn't remove his stare, his cold blue eyes unrelenting, "We're being watched. I hear it in the wind..." He turned to Kryptic, "you've heard it too, haven't you?" Kryptic closed his palm and turned his head to Marcus, "uh yeah, sure, I've heard the chatter. Not really paid it much attention." Marcus sighed, "They know we're here, and they want us to find the Prime." Elain ate some of her soup, "So it's a trap? Great." Marcus nodded; he didn't mention that he'd also been getting visions as they've been climbing. He replayed them through his mind: He was standing in front of the Prime, but he was alone. Elain and Kryptic lay on the ground in front of him, cold and lifeless. There as a sinister, mechanical laugh, and then pain, always a searing pain in his skull. Marcus was unsure of why only he was getting the visions. He thought it had to do with seeing the Prime in a dream while waiting for Elain to recover, but he had no supporting evidence. Snapping back into reality, Marcus shook his head. "It's getting dark, and I don't trust the shadows. You guys should get some sleep; I'll be on first watch." Elain was about to protest, but stopped herself when he gave her a look. "Yeah, okay. Be careful." Marcus nodded and stood. Walking to the edge of the alcove, he stared back out into the frontier, listening to the howling wind and seeing the light snow fall gracefully to the earth. After a few minutes, he heard the snores of Elain and the slow whirs of Kryptic's gears, which calmed him down a bit. The hours went by, but Marcus didn't seem to notice. He was too lost in thought. He didn't seem to notice that Kryptic was standing next to him either. "How goes it?" The Voidwalker began. "Restless, the weather isn't constant, but the presence is..." Marcus replied. "Do you want me to take watch?" "No, we're going to get moving soon anyways." Kryptic nodded, after a few moments, he asked, "What's up with you?" "Huh?" “You've been acting strange since we’ve gotten on the mountain. The voices and something else is bothering you. Elain and I are worried.” Marcus sighed, “I’ve seen things, visions, of you and her dead in front of the Prime. I stood above you both…with a sword in my hand, and your light on it.” Kryptic stared in shock, “Damn…you think that these are premonitions of what is to come?” “Yes, that is, if I don’t change it.” “How will you?” Krptic asked. “I don’t know, but I-“A nearby Fallen roar interrupted the conversation. Both Marcus and Kryptic turned, hand cannon and stolen Wire Rifle in their respective hands. Another roar followed, with various clicks and chatter after it. They sounds were getting closer, and the Exos realized what was coming. The Exos looked at each other, "Run." Click here for part 3: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/152141559
