Nintendo clearly has backed out of the fight to appeal to the serious hardcore gamers, they seem content sitting in their niche younger children and older casual gamer markets and I think this was always their plan with Wii and, while I haven't done and fact checking to prove this, I think they're doing pretty solidly financially using this strategy. Why compete with the other consoles when they can just dominate the smaller demographics?

It's genius business really, being a kid who grew up on Nintendo it makes me sad that I've outgrown it and they no longer care to appeal to gamers like me but from a business standpoint I completely understand and appreciate what they've done.

Agreed. Plus, I think they still have a solid hold on the handheld gaming market and that's probably never going to change. I mean, I own a 3ds for the sole purpose of playing pokemon games.
