I use mine for glimmer when my glimmer gets low. This is going to impact me pretty hard unless they raise the glimmer cap again.

As do I and that is the real reason they are being removed. All of us with stacks of shards effectively have unlimited glimmer allowing us to skip the hamster wheel of farming for glimmer. If I want to level all my crafted weapons for the season to lvl 30 I can easily do so but that would be more than 2-3 MILLION glimmer, something I can pull from shards in a minute. So Bungo wants to force us back onto the grind because at 15Kish a public event thats 15-25 HOURS of farming glimmer they lose on their all important investor player time metrics.

this is probably the real reason. Old players can just convert shards into bright dust which means less cash in Bungie grubby hands
