This would be amazing, if it was in the game. Between grimoire, comics and now forum posts, you really will try anything to not include the story of the game in the game.

I like how you completely ignored the fact that there’s an entire section of the triumphs page dedicated to lore, including a lore triumph seal.
-
You're completely ignoring the fact I'm talking about story telling within game, like cut scenes. Dumping text into a menu isn't really great story telling for a visual medium.
-
cut scenes are meh. cost more than theyre worth. not to say there isn't anything wrong with D2 story telling but i dont think cut scenes are the solution. going to the forums to get the story seems pretty bad too. but we are getting more story than if we had cut scenes.
-
It's a visual medium, cut scenes should be how the story is told. You don't go and see a movie and they hand you a book to explain everything.
-
yeah but were playing a video game. i dont get into a game to watch a movie. so there is parity to how off both of those are. if i had to chose between cinematic or more story i would def choose more story every time.
-
That wasn't really my point. More that they are similar mediums. Show, don't tell, is the basics of any visual story telling medium. Whilst backstory etc is fine in the lore tab, if it's current events like this, then we should have it in game, not on the forums.

Edited by Risky: 3/5/2019 5:12:45 PMthat's not what "show dont tell" means. that would be Bungie telling us hes a bad guy in a vidoc. in these narratives they show us he is a bad guy by his indifference to Joxer's team. the writers didnt tell us "this makes him a bad person" we can to that conclusion ourselves. even with writing, they are SHOWING us he is bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFBhR4QcBtE

It's exactly what show, don't tell means when referring to visual medium. I'm not talking about expositing emotions, or expressing through action or internal monologue. I'm talking about telling a story through the medium they chose.

Edited by Risky: 3/5/2019 5:47:02 PM
When you tell rather than show, you simply inform your reader of information rather than allowing him to deduce anything. You’re supplying information by simply stating it. You might report that a character is “tall,” or “angry,” or “cold,” or “tired.”
https://jerryjenkins.com/show-dont-tell/
I'm talking about telling a story through the medium they chose
. this is not Show dont tell. this is something completely different. and even then you're asking for another medium. video games are an interactive medium. cut-scenes are a cut from that interaction, they are a second medium.

You don't hang around lore very often, do you
-
I'm not even sure what you mean by that? You mean the lore forum? How could I hang around lore?
How could I hang around lore?
He's that slimy guy at the back of the bar. Stay away from him at all costs. It's contagious.
