Is that lifted from old patch notes? I remember them nerfing pve shotgun damage but I don’t remember it having anything to do with pvp. I could have misremembered though.

I didn't quote it perfectly. But yes at some point in D1Y1, long before TTK hit, bungie did actually cut shotgun damage in PvE by 50%, and it came out of the blue.

It wasn't explicitely stated but at the time shotguns were at their all-time high, with stuff like Felwinter's and Found Verdict reigning the crucible from afar. The complaining was palpable. And knowing the buff and nerf history of Destiny, and PvE and PvP performance of guns in D1 being inseperable it's not far fetched to assume that Bungie accepted this sacrifice in order to soothe Crucible complains. From that point on, shotguns in PvE were never a thing again.
