Destiny 2 was never going to come out in 2016. Bungie never spends less than 3 years on development for their games. Plus there's still another Vex based expansion and whatever "Forge of the Gods" turns out to be. You can say that leaked images aren't guarantees all you want but so far that timeline for DLC has been correct other than HoW being delayed and The "Comet" expansion was renamed "The Taken King". Activision is pretty strict with DLC timelines, which is why CoD's DLCs always come out at the same time every year like clockwork. They tried to push that rushed timeline on Bungie and realized it wasn't going to work so they gave them a bit more time in between DLCs after realizing it was a mistake to rush out The Dark Below.
The little events & microtransactions are just a way to keep money coming in between major content releases. So I'd still expect to see the "Vex Void" and one expansion after that in 2016, possibly in September as the big kick off to "year 3". Then maybe at E3 Bungie will announce Destiny 2. Destiny began it's concept stages as early as 2007 because there was an Easter egg in Halo 3: ODST with the Destiny logo. As soon as work finished on Halo 3, they were already working on the ideas for the game. And then Destiny was first announced at E3 2012, more than two years before it came out. I just don't see them saying "surprise here's Destiny 2" without at least a full year's notice to give it time to build hype. Activision is really good at hyping up games and they'll want to make Destiny 2 seem a million times better than its predecessor even if it's only slightly different (like CoD games every year). In order to do that they'll need at least a full year to advertise and create hype, kinda like a politician campaigning for votes.
They also spent a ton on Destiny so they'll milk this game until it's no longer profitable before releasing a new game that will take profits away from the current game. If Destiny is making them money, they'll keep supporting it.

Edited by Dezzie19: 1/24/2016 12:36:02 PMI read they cut both dlcs from year 2 to use in destiny 2.
-
I think that we are getting just one of those dlcs and probably the other one is getting into destiny 2, I can be wrong but I think bungie changed their plans because that old plan (1 game, 2 dlcs, 1 expansion, 2 dlcs) wasn't working.

Edited by A Rising Wind: 1/23/2016 10:55:50 PMThe destiny contract is publicly available. 4 major releases, every two years. It was supposed to be Fall 2013, Fall 2015, Fall 2017, Fall 2019. Obviously destiny was delayed a year so it was fall 2014. Next should be fall 2016....but that doesn't look like it will happen. Basically Bungie has proven themselves unable to maintain their contact durations EDIT: someone linked the contract for you in a reply below

Just another Desticle who refused to admit Bungie mismanaged this game into the ground.
-
Just another kid making assumptions. Activision ruined the game, and Bungie let it happen. But blame whoever you want to make yourself feel better.
-
You realize thats an assumption as well right?

Edited by Disco: 1/23/2016 7:58:00 PM
Destiny 2 was never going to come out in 2016.
Original bungie-activision contract says other wise.
Bungie never spends less than 3 years on development for their games.
They planned to do it with destiny.
Plus there's still another Vex based expansion and whatever "Forge of the Gods" turns out to be.
And you know these won't be part of destiny 2, how?
The "Comet" expansion was renamed "The Taken King".
No, it wasn't. COMET is/was the internal name for EVERY major expansion coming on the 1 year anniversary of every major destiny game release.
So I'd still expect to see the "Vex Void" and one expansion after that in 2016, possibly in September as the big kick off to "year 3". Then maybe at E3 Bungie will announce Destiny 2.
Baseless speculation. We have no reason to think this will happen.

Edited by iMoto Bro: 1/23/2016 8:04:21 PMBungie and Activision made a 10 year deal, they never said if that would be 3 games or 1. I doubt they'll milk it for 10 year but definitely more than 2. None of your responses have anything to support them. You don't know anymore than I do about the plans for the game. But I do know that Activision & Bungie are businesses trying to make profits. And when the contract was signed, they also had to submit a rough timeline and plan for DLC. The image of said timeline is subject to change but you'd be foolish to think they won't release all of the planned DLC for this game to maximize profits before moving onto the next game. Activision realizes that CoD can't be their cash cow forever and that releasing a new game in the series every year may not be the most profitable business plan anymore. So unfortunately they're using Destiny to test out new business plans by experimenting with DLC & microtransactions. They can change things at any time but no matter what they'll make the most money they can from it.
A year old account that isn't linked to a Destiny profile, and you're the expert on Bungie huh?
What did I say that can't be supported? The part about the contract? The one about bungie having every intent to bring a new game every 2 years? The one about COMET being a codename for major expansions? Which one?
You don't know anymore than I do about the plans for the game.
The information out there is the same for everyone. That doesn't mean that everyone knows the same information.
So unfortunately they're using Destiny to test out new business plans by experimenting with DLC & microtransactions.
They've done this with COD for years. Destiny is trying to catch up to what activision have achieved with dlc and microtransactions in COD.
A year old account that isn't linked to a Destiny profile, and you're the expert on Bungie huh?
I never claimed to be an expert and as you're proving, being here a long time doesn't make you 1 either.

Edited by iMoto Bro: 1/23/2016 8:52:41 PMHaving fun picking apart things once sentence at time and pulling a Donald Trump with the "I'm right and you're wrong because I've read things on third party websites" BS? Apparently you were sitting in the meeting room with Activision & Bungie when the contract was signed because you know about this "a game every 2 years" plan that was never made public. Please tell me more about every little detail in this private contract that was never made public aside from leaked images of the planned content.

Enjoy catching up. It's been available for quite some time...
