FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!!
I feel like the only reason captain marvel exists is for the feminist representation of the MCU. And I hate it.
And during that charge? She just flew forward by herself, the rest didn’t really help at ALL
It was SO satisfying to see thanos 1-KO her with the power stone like Ganondorf in Smash Bros

So a movie put a character in in the name of feminism, ruining the film, then accidentally put in a moment that appeases you in your anti-feminism? Hmm...it’s almost like your complaints only matter if you don’t actually consider the movie as a whole.
-
Never expect an emotional argument to make rational sense.
-
i loved the movie, and part of the reason i feel this way is because i really don't like the actor. But the movie was awesome. but if i could do one thing differently with it, it would have most likely been that
I feel like the only reason captain marvel exists is for the feminist representation of the MCU. And I hate it.
And people act like she's the only super heroine to show up in the mcu. What about Black Widow? What about Scarlet Witch? There were other super heroines before her, and everyone inside and outside the mcu thinks she's the best thing since sliced bread.
-
those two weren’t forced. captain marvel very obviously was
-
True. To be bluntly honest, her story just felt rushed and forced to me.

Yet...
I'm still hoping that the Black Widow solo movie is good. If it ever comes out.
Someone has issues with powerful women. She was there because she was one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. The other beings that rival her in power are Omega level mutants (which Marvel doesn’t have full rights back to use). Or are other villains of Thanos’ level of power. She was there to give context to Thanos power, and explain why he was able kick the asses of heroes like Thor and the Hulk so easily, and to remind us that this psychopath destroyed HALF THE UNIVERSE. And not just half of life on Earth.

Edited by Lia: 5/13/2019 11:57:12 AMBut please excuse the powerful female protagonists that the people hating on it absolutely adore, like Ripley from the Alien franchise and Wonder Woman. If we really "had issues with powerful women" Wouldn't these movies have bombed for the sake of a woman being the protagonist? No, because men aren't mindless drones who reee at the sight of a women in power. Edit: Oh, and not to mention EVERY OTHER FEMALE CHARACTER IN THE MCU (besides Shuri, she's a racist prick) and how I've seen literally no one complain about them.
-
Edited by TheArtist: 5/13/2019 12:33:51 PMYou really don't want to do this...... trust me. 1. Ripley is still a traditional female role. The Maternal figure protecting a child. She only manifests her power to defend an orphaned child. 2. Wonder Woman is also, in her way, another traditional female role. Object of beauty. Object of male desire. Even in her own movie, moving in a world defined by the men around here. Whereas, Captain Marvel is aloof and non-relational. She has her own agenda, that is not subordinate to anyone else's. On multiple occasions in Endgame she has to (essentially) come to the rescue of the male heroes in the movie. In short, she moves in the movie with the independence and AGENCY that are---even today---almost always reserved for male characters and male heroes. ....and **some** of you have a problem with this, because EVERY time we are presented with a powerful female that has this level of agency...there is ALWAYS push back. ...and almost EXCLUSIVELY from young men.
Edit: Oh, and not to mention EVERY OTHER FEMALE CHARACTER IN THE MCU (besides Shuri, she's a racist prick) and how I've seen literally no one complain about them.
Nope...again. Captain Marvel is unique. Every other female character in the Universe is RELATIONAL....and in a sense defined by their relations to male figures or to children. Once again they are powerful in EXTENSION of traditional female roles....whereas Captain Marvel is powerful in DEFIANCE of them.
Black Widow sacrifices herself to save a Hawkeye that has become a mass murderer out of grief for the loss of his family.....to give him another chance with that family.
Scarlet Witch confronts Thanos...and speaks only of her lost love, Vision. Pepper Potts takes to the field in one of the Iron Man suits, to help protect her family. Wasp is largely defined by her sexual tension-filled relationship with Ant-Man The powerful female characters of Wakanda are ultimately subordinate to their King.....T'challa Valkyrie...until the end of Endgame...is subordinate to a Thor that is hiding from life and his grief. Freia....his mother...appears to nurture his grief a way and try to strengthen him to return to the fight. The Ancient One subordinates herself to Dr. Strange "Or perhaps I've made a mistake. Steven Strange is supposed to be the best of us. " Ultimately deferring to HIS judgement to relinquish the Time Stone she was sworn to protect. Nebula is defined by her futile efforts to please a distant and uncaring father...and her rivalry with a sister who has his favor. Gamora is defined by her love-hate relationship with that father figure...and her developing love relationship with Star Lord. The traditional expressions of feminity are not intrinsically bad....but they are...traditional. Therefore non-threatening to those attached to patriarchy. Captain Marvel is the only female character in the movie that stands OUTSIDE of these traditional female roles and "acceptable" expressions of female power. She stand OUTSIDE of any web of close relationships in the movie. More a Force of Nature than a person....and that clearly bothers some of you. Otherwise you wouldn't be pushing back at it so hard, and claiming its "bad acting" and "bad writing"...even though I've tried to clearly explain the vital function her character serves. WITHOUT HER, doing what she's doing. You lose perspective on the story being told. You risk becoming tunnel-visioned and seeing the story as a fight over the fate of Earth....and family therapy for Thanos' crew. Captain Marvel is there to be a constant reminder of the full extent of Thanos' power.....the full depth of his narcissism and evil....and that scope of what is being fought over is TRULY universal. She literally is there to say, "What is going on here on Earth is going on everywhere....but not everywhere has The Avengers. (So I'm here to try to quell the chaos in places where you can't be...I can support you, but I have my own agenda that is bigger than Earth's problems.)" Bigger than YOUR problems.

I'm not against powerful woman. But when it ruins other movies just for the sake of getting that message across, i have a problem.

Funny how no one ever complains about movies with gratuitous presence of powerful male characters. No one complained about Luke Skywalker being able to use the Force to blow up the Death Star in Episode 4...after 5 minutes of training. Yet people nitpick every little use of the Force by Rey, and insist that its "wrong" because she hadn't been trained. No one complained that an 8 year old Anakin Skywalker had enough command of the Force that he was already manifesting super-human abilities (pod racing without killing himself)....yet never having been trained. But....once again....every little use of the Force by Rey gets challenged and nitpicked. What IS IT about Rey that makes her different from Luke and Anakin? What IS IT about Captain Marvel that makes her different than Thor and The Hulk...and the other strength/power-based heroes in the franchise? Hmmmmmm......
-
I liked Rey, i'm probably one of the only people who did. And captain marvel has no character development. She was that person that nobody likes that was thrown into the MCU at the last minute. Not to mention, i really don't like the actor
-
1. I also like Rey, and enjoy what they've done with both her character and with The Last Jedi. I got a big shit-eating grin on my face the moment she handed Luke that lightsaber, and he casually tossed it over his shoulder. That was my cue that it was NOT going to be a movie that was going to cater to fan expectations...and that we were going to go somewhere different. Pushback against Rey being a powerful female is only part of the issue with her character. She's also at the center of a decades long schism within the Star Wars fanbase between those who see the franchise as a modern myth (which is how The Last Jedi treats it)....and a modern fairy-tale (which is who Rogue One treats it). The Mythic faction can enjoy the fairy tale movies....but the Fairy Tale faction always lose their shit whenever the series turns to myth. ("They ruined my childhood!!") 2. Because that is not her role. She is supposed to be not-quite-human. Like Dark Phoenix, she is someone who has become so powerful that she's transcended her humanity to a certain extent. She is SUPPOSED to be somewhat cold, distant...and not-very-likeable. That moment between her and Thor when they meet for the first time and he calls Stormbreaker to his hand right past her ear to test her mettle..... ...and she not only fails to flnch in any sort of surprise, but looks at Thor with an attitude of "Don't -blam!- with me, Asgardian." Is everything you needed to know about her. She is a pure warrior. She is more of a Force of Nature than she is a person at this point. There IS NO 'warm and fuzzy" underbelly to her like we eventually come to find in Black Widow...or The Scarlet Witch. It isn't developed...because it isn't THERE to BE developed. She's a female equivalent of the character Clint Eastwood played in "Pale Rider" (a metaphorical reference to the pale mount that Death will ride upon during The End of Days.")

How did her 5 min of screentime ruin Endgame??
-
And i meant she ruined other movies. The shield name history and how nick fury lost his eye were stupid and i hated that. They completely ruined what could have been memorable scenes, and all for a joke
-
They made Thor fat for jokes
-
If he had lost his eye the way he did in the comics (Gulf War or WWII depending on which universe) people would cry they made it too anti-war or PC or something else.
-
i honestly don't care what they did, anything except for that CAT
-
Ok YOU may not care but I guarantee if they had made him lose his eye in a war people would have flipped their shit saying the movie tried to make some anti-war statement.
-
That's a stretch..I'm honestly don't think people would get mad over that
-
Well I've seen people crying it made a pro-war statement because she was a fighter pilot
-
People cry about everything
